I had made changes to one note, deleted one and was clicking in another (same reference as the one deleted) to open the resource when the crash occurred (I was clicking away from the hyperlink initially).

Ah, based on two decades of experience (more or less), I can assure you checking in is generally a waste of time. .. unless you've had a hint of when like "within the year" or "before Easter'. Even then, it is often "I think I misunderstood ... which year did you mean?"
