What is a reasonable tablet for reading and for preaching mode?
I need to upgrade my iPad. My conclusion is that the new iPad 10.2 is what I need: reasonable price, good quality. I can't seem to find one for sale anywhere in Canada (I'm barely exagerating).
I'm wondering if the new Fire HD tablet would be a good option as well. (For less than half the price of the iPad...!)
Any thoughts on that?
(I don't take for granted the interactions I'm able to have and the advice I'm able to receive here. Thank you beforehand: it's much appreciated.)

That is surprising! What delivery delay are Apple quoting?
Don't answer - just checked - 6 to 7 weeks. But I would still ring the store and double check. Sometimes long delivery dates suddenly get forshortened.
I would still wait for an iPad for the job even so.

I concur. Kindle Fire's are bottom line products, and Apple supports their iPads for longer, which means a brand new iPad will have greater longevity.

I've used iPad in the past and currently use the Proclaim Remote on a Kindle Fire HD. If you are currently using iPad (even an old one) I believe you may be disappointed in the performance of a Fire HD. My LIMITED use of the Fire make it a good solution for my situation (>95% of my Logos interaction is on the Desktop)

I'm currently using a Fire HD, my 3rd. It's a 3 year old tablet, & for the last year I've had to run Logos 8 because Amazon is running so many android releases behind what's "current." When Logos 9 was released, they dropped support for the version of Android running on my tablet. While the new Fire HD LOOKS attractive, just remember that the oldest iPad physically capable is still running the latest software from Apple. Not so, Amazon.
I've decided I can't afford to buy another Fire.
Grace & Peace,
Bill

Super helpful, guys, thank you so much. I guess that my best bet is to wait. I want to be a good steward. Sometimes, that means waiting. Sometimes, it also means spending more for a better product.

We did have someone on here who seemed to go from spending $200 a year on cheap machines (they wore out) to $400 every 18 months (the still wore out) but thought that spending $1000 on a machine that would last six or seven years was expensive.
The 'total cost of ownership' calculation is a great rubric.
