Word Tree

I read Morris' blog this morning and tried out the word tree feature. I just so happen to be doing a sermon on John 15, so I highlighted v.1-11. The word I'm concentrating on is abide, used 10 times, which I typed into the box on the right. I only get two results because the word appears capitalized and is plural sometimes. Is there any way to get all ten uses of the word on the tree? Thanks.

Hmm, there doesn't appear to be. There's no "Match case" or "Use all word forms" option on the panel menu, wildcards are not accepted, and it doesn't understand OR or comma separator between multiple words. I guess this is a feature suggestion waiting to be made. (However I discovered that the box on the right side does accept phrases.)

Also, I wasn't able to enter John 15:1-11. The Passage Analysis reference box seems to force the reference to be on pericope boundaries. So it would allow John 15:1-8 or John 15-1-17, but not 1-11. Did you manage to get it to accept 1-11? What Bible version were you referencing? I tried it with ESV.

I tried all the same stuff you did to no avail. I did get Jn 1-11 into the box using the ESV, in fact its the first pericope on my system. Can we try using a lemma? - I don't know how to do that in this case.

That's on my system too, but that's John chapters 1 through 11, not John 15 verses 1-11, which is what you wanted. It makes for a pretty interesting tree, though, if you put in Jesus for the Word or phrase:

I don't think so. The dropdown menu for the "Word or phrase" box shows you what is allowed, and it's a controlled vocabulary.

hehe - I meant Jn 15:1-11 - it really does come up on my system as the first pericope. I will keep your tree in mind when I want to study the first 11 chapters!!

Another thought is to do a search for a particular word or phrase and use wildcards. You can then see the word or phrases highlighted in the text of your bible. Not as interesting as a word tree but you can quickly see the words/phrases and their context.

MJ, you're using NRSV which apparently happens to have 9 occurrences with the word form just as abide. If you try ESV you'll see the tree is limited to just 6 results (I was finally able to select John 15:1-11 from the pericope list). There are actually more if you count the Abide and abides, but you can't get them to show up in the tree as it doesn't match case insensitively or all word forms.
