Fun Learning to use the Discourse Features Visual Filters
It's been fun learning to use the Discourse Features Visual Filters. I'm following Morris Proctor's A-Z training.
How much do you use these visual filters if you do? Which ones do you tend to focus on the most or find the most helpful? I'm finding it amazing to see how much doesn't come through in translation.
I've been finding the following the most helpful:
- Overspecification
- Thematic Addition
- Changed Reference
- Focus/Emphasis (Main Clause)
- Topical Frame
- Nominative/Genitive/Dative Circumstantial Frame (Greek only)
- Comparative Frame
- Left Dislocation Frame
I have several more to learn about (all the reported speech and outline annotations), but so far these have jumped out at me the most in terms of how they work to emphasize (or frame) what's most important to the author and how you frequently can't pick up that emphasis/framing in the English translations.
What has jumped out at you using the Discourse visual filters?

Hi Kiyah,
Is this part of Morris Proctor's paid training or free training? Can you post a link to the training?

You need a subscription to MP Seminars to access the A-Z training. He had a free webinar last year but it may not be free to access anymore:
https://mpseminars.com/course/webinar-discourse-features/
- Or try this link also for the free webinar (scroll to the bottom of the page and click the 'register' link): https://mpseminars.com/free-discourse-features-webinar/
Here's the Logos 8/9 A-Z training I'm going through right now (not free):
https://mpseminars.com/course/logos-8-az/section/discourse-features/
I did find this in the Video Blog, I'm not sure if that's free or not to you. See if you can access it:

Here's the link to the full Free Training Blog:
Fyi...He's having a promotion right now on an annual subscription for $160 (normal price is $199).

These Discourse Introduction resources in your library are pretty straightforward to follow:
https://www.logos.com/product/27500/the-lexham-discourse-hebrew-bible-introduction
https://www.logos.com/product/27270/the-lexham-discourse-greek-new-testament-introduction
If you already have the discourse feature sets you probably also have these resources in your library. As I said, they explain things pretty clearly without being too technical.
