Saving space on a Mac

If you want to download all your resources locally, it will require significant storage space of up to 22GB. I have a MacBook pro and limited space, so I followed the instructions on moving the resources to an external drive. This is the only solution that worked for me because moving the whole Logos4 folder causes the application to hang on startup. If you follow the instructions below, it will work on modern MacBooks with Monterey (or higher).

Relocate your Resources folder

Use this method to relocate ~ 80 % of personal Application Support storage to an external drive while minimizing external drive interface issues.

   A) Install or Connect New Volume

   B) Make sure Application and its Indexer are NOT running

   C) Copy your Resources folder to New Volume
         Logos ~/Library/"Application Support"/Logos4/Data/*/ResourceManager/Resources
         Verbum ~/Library/"Application Support"/Verbum/Data/*/ResourceManager/Resources
         Noet ~/Library/"Application Support"/Noet/Data/*/ResourceManager/Resources

   D) Move your Resources folder to the trash and optionally empty trash to free up internal storage space

   E) Create a Symbolic link from the Resources folder on New Volume

  1. Open Terminal (inside Utility folder in Applications)
  2. cd ~/Library/"Application Support"/OldFolder/Data/*/ResourceManager
Note: OldFolder was the application whose Resources folder was moved: Logos4 , Verbum , or Noet
  3. ln -s /Volumes/NewVolume/Resources
Note: if NewVolume has a space in the name, then quotes are needed for link (ln) command:
    ln -s /Volumes/"NewVolume"/Resources
  4. Quit Terminal

   F) Open Application when New Volume is mounted on Mac (appears in Finder)
Note: if New Volume name changes, the Step E) symbolic link will no longer work; can be removed then created using New Volume name

Another option is to imply keep most of your library in the cloud.

You can open the library in a new tab, hit CMD+A to highlight them all, CMD+click to unselect the resources you want to keep saved, then click "Remove from this Device." When a resource not stored locally comes up in a search, it will give you the option to open it in the web app or download it. When installing Logos for the first time, you can now select one of three options about how much of your library to download.

    Welcome [:D]

Amount of storage required for downloaded resources depends on license purchases. My 2019 iMac has 119 GB downloaded for my purchases (Ultimate with library expansions). Some forum participants have substantially larger libraries; their Resources folder use over 250 GB of storage.

My 2011 MacBook Air (MBA) has a 250 GB internal Solid State Disk (SSD), which is too small for me to download all my purchased resources. In 2022, hoping to replace decade old MBA with newer Apple Silicon model that has larger SSD.

Deleting and doing a fresh Logos install allowed me to change MBA configuration so now most of my purchased resources are in the cloud. Years ago me carrying around MBA with external USB provided opportunity for USB drive to be bumped (silent change from working to not working crash). Thankful USB worked after MBA quick exit from car to ground a couple times, including one where USB drive cover split up into several pieces.

Note: Logos Wiki macOS Troubleshooting includes Uninstalling Logos for Mac (reason MBA uninstall was needed for me was my quick installation copying on several Mac models had the same installation ID, which is associated with resource location: download OR cloud).

    Relocate your Resources folder

    An alternative to copying

and pasting into forum post is simply including link to Logos Wiki.

    Keep Smiling [:)]
