Still cannot scroll unless I place my finger on text instead of white area of tablet screen

I mentioned this a few years ago, but it is still a problem. If I attempt to scroll on the mobile app (Android on Samsung Tablet), nothing happens if I happen to initially place my finger where the screen is white. However, if I place my finger on text, it scrolls ok. This occasionally causes frustration when I forget this workaround, resulting in the assumption that the app has frozen, etc. Can this please be looked at? Thanks

Please confirm what version of the Logos app you are using. Tap on the Settings icon (icon looks like a gear, in the lower right), then go to “App Info” > “Version” to confirm which version installed.

Please also confirm what version of Android you have on this device. Open the settings app, go to "About Device" > Software Information > Android Version. These instructions may not exactly match what you see on your device, but should be close enough.

Hi JT. Thanks for replying. Whitespace is anywhere in between the written text. Some books, especially Bible study books, have lots of white space around the text (for which the problem is often experienced when in an actual Bible study with people).

I am sorry, John, but the minimum version of Android required for our apps is 7.1.

If you are able to update this device to Android 7.1 or higher, please re-install our app. If you are not able to update, you will find that this outdated version of our app will continue to lose functionality as time goes by.

Hi Joe, Ok, if I use the Logos app on my phone (which I do much less frequently, due to the smaller screen size), which is Logos app version 9.10.0 running on Android version 12, the same problem occurs. Plus, this has been a problem for at least a year now, possibly two or three if I remember correctly. I tend to notice it any time I'm using Lifeguide Bible Studies in a small group, although not when scrolling a Bible.

I have a few and tried one on my iPhone without issue. Can you name a specific title? I probably dont have it, but if I do I will check to see if it is a resource issue.

There are no visible text boxes in that resource on the Android app. All that can be seen is white space. But after I checked it on the desktop app, I see that there are text boxes. In the parts of those Lifebuilder/Lifeguide resources where the white space is not where 'text boxes' are on the desktop app, such as at the start of a chapter or study, it is possible to scroll on the white area of the screen.

If the problem is due to text boxes being present, maybe it might be helpful to provide some visual indication that those boxes are present, such as a light grey background within the box, or a visible black border on the box. Or, to allow the page to scroll even though there are text boxes, just like it scrolls when touching paragraph text.

But I'll be more aware of the workaround for a while now.

FYI

It was good of someone from support to look at this and get back to me. He verified that he can replicate the problem. He mentioned that it only occurs when trying to scroll by pressing on a text box.

Although it is not obvious at all that there is a text box, since the page just looks white like the margins, unless one knows in advance that it is there, he suggested that I press on paragraph text to scroll instead. He said it was only on this resource, although it is on the whole range of 139 resources in this range.

Basically, the suggestion is to live with it.

In the future, I'll just have to try to remember that there is a workaround of scrolling by pressing on the paragraph text. When I'm in the middle of a Bible study I hope I don't forget, and assume that the app has stalled, as I have so often done in the past.
