Anki integration
Before putting this idea up for a vote, I wonder if users could throw in their two cents about the feasibility or usefulness of FL including some Anki functionality. It seems the mobile vocab app is not widely used and isn't getting any coding attention, so I propose one of two things:
1. Integrate Anki into the desktop app as a tool so we could dump our word lists into it and study from Logos, or
2. At least build in the ability to export word lists as Anki decks.
Since Anki is open source, it could be done.
I see that someone wanted this a few years ago, but nobody replied to his question.

I am a big Anki fan, but I don’t really see much need for integration. I just run Anki on one monitor and Logos on another. Retyping is a key element of memorizing for me.

For anyone unfamiliar, Anki is a flashcard app based on spaced repetition. It's useful for memorizing and a popular tool for learning vocabulary in different languages. It was instrumental to my college success.
That being said it's not always the most intuitive product, but it is easy to make word lists into flash cards if you have Excel.
- Create your word list and Print/Export to Excel
- Delete any unnecessary columns so you have a column of lemma and a column of the corresponding definitions
- Save the file as Unicode Text (.txt)
- Close Excel (you won't be able to open and change the new file while it is still open)
- Find that Unicode file and resave it with UTF-8 encoding (see image below)
- Manually import into Anki under the File tab.

I have pushed for Anki like capabilities for years. I personally use it for learning the various field names, attributes, linguistics terms, figure of speech names ...etc. etc. I don't use their current card system because it is so limited in approach and doesn't match how I learn languages.

I see it is terms of being able to share lists and assign lists to resources. I don't learn by typing -- just by handwriting

I’d support a better version of the Flashcards app - or ability to connect to Anki.
We use Cerego in my courses for similar reasons. if the Flashcards app was similar features wise it’s be extremely useful.

The learning curve for all these softwares is steep, but academic institutions are expecting student proficiency.
For the trends that I see developing, earlier integration with the major open-source academic softwares is preferable to later integration. Even Microsoft keeps giving up and offering more integration.
Online classes are quickly replacing onsite classes. College professors are overwhelmed getting these course prepared. Students are exhausted from trying to learn all the softwares. The additional complicated and redundant methods for porting content from one software to another can be the difference in students failing or passing.

Only people who know what "Anki" is will be able to contribute their 2¢.
True. Folks would have to know what 2¢ is, too. I suppose a sturdy search engine could help. [;)]

It could, and I did use one. However, your desire is to promote this idea. "Anki" is pretty niche. Most people won't even click your thread to read it. If your desire is to win people over, you will have to do a better job of clearly explaining what it is, why it would be beneficial, and why FL should do so. That is my 2¢. [:)]

Yes. I misread the thread title as "anti-immigration." Whoops, I guess I need to make another pot of coffee [:D]
