Spiritual Disciplines

Hello. I have recently finished reading Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life by Donald S. Whitney and Spiritual Disciplines for Ordinary People by Keith Drury and The Lost Virtue of Happiness: Discovering the Disciplines of the Good Life by J. P. Moreland; Klaus Issler. I am looking for a book that covers the history and theology of spiritual disciplines as well as the history of spirituality. Can anyone recommend me a long book?

This is a dictionary but it is very broad...may be what you are looking for (?)

Mike, You are close to being on target for what I am looking for. I am trying to find a book to use at a weekly book club. I want some reader friendly, like Whitney's book but something also newer.

Perhaps not entirely on topic, but on the subject of the history of spiritual revivals, Richard Lovelace's book, Dynamics of Spiritual Life, might be worth considering.

I enjoy - https://www.amazon.com/Five-Smooth-Stones-Discovering-Wholeness/dp/1929478291
The 5 stones are: Solitude, Prayer, Study, Fasting, Service and they are all propelled through the sling of Faith.

There's an excellent 3-volume history of Christian Spirituality by Bernard McGinn. Unfortunately not available in Logos, but I've put in a suggestion for it on the feedback board.
There's also Dallas Willard's The Spirit of the Disciplines. It might be available in Logos e-book format but I'm not seeing the e-book version, only the audio, which might be a function of my geographic location.
And Richard Foster's Celebration of Discipline which covers many various spiritual disciplines, one per chapter, organized into three groupings -- Inward Disciplines (Meditation, Prayer, Fasting, Study), Outward Disciplines (Simplicity, Solitude, Submission, Service), and Corporate Disciplines (Confession, Worship, Guidance, and Celebration), giving biblical background for each and the benefits of each, and how to practice them. Not available in Logos, but I've put a request in. (It's available from that other big bookseller that sells its own digital books.)

I don't know if this would be of any use, but R. Kent Hughes and his wife have some books. There's "Disciplines of a Godly Man", "Disciplines of a Godly Woman", "Disciplines of a Godly Family". I've read through "Man" and am going through "family" with my men's Bible study right now. Very good stuff, convicting.
