What are your thoughts on this resource? 40% off is a good chunk and I do like Dale Allison who seems to recommend it. Useful? Sometimes resources this big I find are not useful because it takes forever to get to what you want to learn.
Not a useful comment, but my present reading volume (Paul was not a Christian) panned Dunn. Essentially, still painted Paul in 2nd century colors.
But could be good?
Not sure — I have not read any of the volumes. It’s highly recommended and it’s been on my wish list, so 40% off seems like the right price to get it.
Thank you for highlighting this, DAL! I just picked up the set.

Which volume is this?

It's from a jewish 1st century perspective (modern jewish writer, of course)
- The title sounds bad, but essentially the Paulines didn't speak to a later theology 'Christianity' nor what today would be a 'Christian'. The end was just years away. Presumably Paul thought he could save some gentiles.
- Much of the jewish bad <> Christian good, is 2nd and 3rd century writers; Paul was well within jewish thought (which varied considerably)
Reading it, is slow going since there's a lot of unsupported generalizations (typical of modern religious scholars). Fredriksen's "Paul the Pagan's Apostle' is much better, since it goes into more of the greek. It ends at 36% .... more notes than monograph.
(typical of modern religious scholars).
Isn't it - drives me nuts as I try to follow their "apologetics"
Thanks! I thought one of Dunn’s volumes I just purchased said that, but couldn’t find it.
