Personal Books

I currently have Logos 9 on my laptop and mobile on my tablet. I teach school off of my laptop currently, but it is getting old. I would like to switch to my tablet, but I remember some time ago reading that Personal Books could not be brought into the mobile version. A couple of questions;

1) Can you now bring PB into the mobile app?

2) If not is there a kludge to bring them into mobile?

3) If neither 1 or 2 are possible, can you install a full version on a tablet?

The desktop app works on macOS and Windows. A "fuller" experience can be had on a tablet using the web app, but personal books don't work there (and are unlikely to be supported in the future).

You can on a tablet that is running the full version of Windows, like a Microsoft Surface (better go for a Pro version) or HP Elite X2 series. But they would run the desktop version of Logos, which is not optimized for touch, you would probably still find yourself having to attach the keyboard for many tasks.

Not one I was familiar with either, but context gave me a fairly good idea of what Lloyd meant but confirmed my understanding to make sure.

The "kludge" is to have the personal books in a different format using a different app. For example: Create a PDF of the personal book. You would not access the resource through the Logos app. Notes you create on the PDF would remain outside of Logos. You could, of course, create notes you type in Logos by switching between the apps.

I never understood Bob's logic on personal books, since other Bible platforms already did it, on mobile. My own software writes out personal books to several Bible platforms. Maybe they wanted tight publishing control. I remember Bob's logic for tiny notes in L4. He was good.

I ruled that out immediately primarily because it might be too easy to ruin the .docx file on mobile. If the .docx file was "in the cloud," this would have the worse possibility of ruining the original file for the personal book. If it were a copy, the potential consequences would be less dire. In my opinion, an "editable text" is not the best option for reading. It would be the simplest solution, however. However creating a .PDF, especially on Mac, is a one step process.

I never understood Bob's logic on personal books

The TL;DR: The creation of the tool (and the suggested "personal book store") were intended for people to actually write their own books. Upon study of actual use, most personal books were competing public domain works and/or other ePub titles people converted from other sources (legally or not). Both of those uses goes against the best interests of FL. For that reason, further development was shelved.

I know I am getting a little techie, but when I worked for a large insurance agency, I had to design a kludge. We bought one software to handle policy matter and a different one to handle accounting, they couldn't exchange Information. I designed a program to take info out of one and put it in the other, a kludge. I thought maybe there was a way to do that through notes or something else in order to teach like I do now with all my references linked. I have a Samsung tablet so I thnki I full version isn't possible on that, unless I find a way to install windows on that.

It is my understanding that Samsung did or does make both Windows and Android tablets. Which is yours? If Android, then no... and you won't be able to install windows on it.

This is a different topic. It might be good for you to create a new thread and explain the "what" you are trying to do and see if forum members can help you figure out the "how." My first guess might be the sermon maker tool, but I don't use that.

The one with the best execution, was Laridian. Don't know currently, though I still use their older software. It has (speaking for me) a compile function, with the ability to simply copy the resulting file into Laridian's PC resource directory where it is automatically picked up. And copy over to the mobile, the same. And the included functionalities tended to precede Logos's. I don't know where Logos ended up (I'm on L7) ... but my favorite was tables that you can color code. I use for verse and word classing (visualization).

I'm being a bit catty (as usual), but the refuse-from-cow-eating (being nice) that Logos always trots out, gets tiresome. They do excessively complicated designs, make sure they're real, real pretty, and then can't easily turn on a dime. I'm currently not convinced FL can even muster the same resources as in 2007-8, to move to a more sophisticated approach.

I understand that some may not like Logos for whatever reason.... But... I used several other Bible software programs before.... and I would say Logos is simply the best. Period. No way will it satisfy everyone, even Christ didn't do that and He was perfect in every way. But if one gives Logos half a chance... it will serve you very well.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply Logos is equal to Christ. Nothing compares to Christ.

But Logos is still a pretty good man made tool..... I think. [8-|]
