Defining own PR's

Good afternoon everyone! I was wondering if there was a way to define our own PR's in Logos 4 as we could Logos 3. For instance, I would have open the Ancient Christian commentary where the authors would be hyperlinked to the ACCS introduction where it would give a short bio on that particular person. I set up a PR to Who's Who and the Oxford Dichionary of the Christian Church and to Shelly's Church History so that in a matter of arrow presses I could get a great complete bio on that figure in church history. Is there a way to do that in Logos 4? I tried sets and targets but I could not find a way to make it work. Many thanks for your consideration

Parallel Resource association can be set by first making a collection with all the resources you consider to be parallel. Then check the box at the top that says "show as Parallel Resources"

Note that these are not Serial Resource Parallels, just Parallel.

Yes, you can. It's done through collections now and is much more powerfull. You can read more here: http://wiki.logos.com/Collections

When creating the collection, make sure "Show in parallel resources" is ticked, and your collection will be treated like PR in Logos 3.

I created a collection with Who's Who & Oxford Dictionary of the Christian church, ACCs Intro , and Church History in plain language and made sure to check the PR box at the top but nothing shows in these resources. The PRA performs a search for an article with the same title between all the resources in the collection. So if the other resources use a differing naming convention the PRA button won't display the other resources.

The problem is with these resources. Neither Who's who in Christian History nor the introduction to ACCS is indexed by headword, so parallel resources will never work in those resources. It's hard to argue that ACCS should be indexed (it's mostly an essay, rather than dictionary-type articles), but Who's who certainly should be. No-one else has previously requested this, so it might be wise to start a new thread reporting the lack of index as a problem, and then add it to the Wiki page that documents these types of errors.

Hi Kevin-If I remember in Logos 3 I could do this based on the fact these books were arranged topically and I could connect them that way. It worked really great to connect them. I'm surprised that Who's Who & ACCS Introduction don't work since they are both dictionaries in a real sense but the PRA does not pick them up.

Mark, The ACCS Introduction is only part essay. In fact it has a biography set in dictionary format for all the the authors. When you're in your ACCS click the author hyperlink and you will see what I mean.

Incidentally, although those resources are not currently useable, you should still be able to achieve what you want from other resources, and straight out of the box. When you come across a figure you want to lookup, right-click on their name, and select Lookup from the context menu. The first dictionary you have prioritised that has a matching entry will open. You can then use the parallel resource menu or the right and left arrow keys to jump to other resources.

For example, I looked up Commodian and found and entry in the Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church. Unfortunately this doesn't work when someone's name consists of more than one word. But in that case you can use the command line. Just type in lookup Cyril of Jerusalem in the command line to find the first entry, then use parallel resource menu to find the additional entries.

I understand that, though they're very brief pen pictures. But why not add it to your other request? Perhaps Logos will make the change (though don't hold your breath, I'm afraid).
