What are some good books on the Intertestamental Period and its literature in the New Testament?
Until you get some better answers try reading the Maccabees. Just might be in some bible in your collection.
Martin Hengel's Judaism and Hellenism has more depth than you want.
Not many are really familiar with just how 'greek' and even a polis, Jerusalem had become, or how many times the walls got torn down. Even the argument the Samaritans were the faithful.

A little over one year ago, I led a small-group (via ZOOM) study using the Concordia Publishing house material: The Apocrypha: the Lutheran Edition with notes. As MJ indicated, the Logos version is two pieces--ESV Apocrypha text and the Notes. (Two pieces allow you to link side-by-side in usage.) It has excellent historical introduction and context. We had a very informative study.
