Sorting books in a series of commentaries in biblical order

Hello,

I have a question about sorting books in a series of commentaries in my library, if possible in biblical order.

It is because I found some commentaries are missing some books when I purchase a Logos package, so it was tough to find which books are missing. It would be great to have a few options to sort the books in some known orders to save time.

I don't know if this question was posted before but I couldn't find from the list, so please let me know.

Thank you in advance,

Sangmin

I don't think there is a way to directly do this.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Thank you very much for letting me know!

I hope to see this function available someday, which would be very helpful.

There is a way you can do that. You can rename the books in the series with the canonical biblical book number at the front of the name.

    https://www.blueletterbible.org/study/misc/66books.cfm

Not that this would save you time. But once you do this renaming, any collection with those books in it will sort them correctly in biblical order when it's sorted alphabetically by title.

Thank you very much for the interesting technique!

That does seem to make sorting to some degree and then I may have to think about the additional situation, where some books are part of the divisions of one Bible book and others contain multiple Bible books in one volume....It seems not simple situation but let me think about it..

    Thank you.

I have a question about sorting books in a series of commentaries in my library, if possible in biblical order.

    I tag all my commentaries, bible studies and some monographs with a mytag (or more than one) in the following format;

    • #01 - Gen,
    • #02 - Ex
    • ...
    • #39 - Mal
    • ....
    • #61 - Mt,
    • #62 - Mk
    • ...

This allows for sorting and selecting.

I do this.... I just don't use the # sign. I learned years ago that this technique helped me tremendously in finding books... and searching them.

xn = Christan  man=man -- Acts 11:26 "....and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch".

If you look at the commentary set in the store on the website, you can Hide owned resources  and just see the available volumes that you are missing.

This would be a good feature for FL to add.

I thought they aleady had a field for that, or maybe not sortable by Bible order. Yesterday, I was tagging about 1500 resources, since I stopped updating the software (I have a Verbum and no downloaded books, for tagging). What a mess, trying to tag the Biblicals. After 12+ years, the library is still just months after Libby departed.

FYI:  Using the non-numeric character to lead prevents other numeric-led MyTags from butting in line with the canon order.

Thank you all, very much for sharing good tips and advice !!

It seems the manual tagging is the best way so far and very helpful.

Also, thank you for the way to find the missing books from the website.

    Much appreciated!

I love this idea. I think it makes sense when you sort by the Series header in the Library browser. At least this should be an option.

The closest is to organise your Library by Bible Commentary in Details view, click on Series and shift-click on Subjects.

    .

You will see a listing for each bible book, and I expanded a few subjects to show that they are hosted in one volume. Old Testament (O.T.) books will be listed after the New ones (N.T.)

Your suggestion prompted me to look at 'Subjects'.  What a mess.  I have a fairly decent library.  Per subjects, I have 3 Bibles.  Most subjects have at most 3 volumes, except for aramaic lexicons.  And 'Bahnasa ..." (two subjects that visually can't be distinguished). That'd be Oxyrhunchus for the uninitiated.

What does shift-click do that clicking on the header alone does not do? I cannot see any difference.

Secondary sort order. Leaves the first one as the main sort order. Whereas if you simply click on a second column, it resorts the whole library on that column.

Secondary sort field appears grouped inside each primary sort entry, like this:

Thanks Dave and Rosie... I learned something from reading this thread!!

xn = Christan  man=man -- Acts 11:26 "....and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch".
