A Way To Do a Bible Word Study Using Strong's Numbers?

Sorry if this has been asked before but doing a search of the forums reveals a ton of messages concerning Strong's but I did not see this question.

Is there a way to do a Bible Word Study using just the Strong's number such as G-5254 or do you always have to either type the word or copy/paste the Hebrew or Greek word into the text field?

One way to do this woud be to do a power lookup. Right click on the word and then selct from the right pane in the menu Greek or Hebrew Strongs then click on power lookup. This will give you a quick overview of all the resources that use that Strongs #. You can also just click on the strongs # and a resource will open. From there you can use the left and right arrow keys to cycle through the various resources. You can also do a search on the strongs #.

I never type or copy the word into the text field...I right click on the word I want in the Bible window, select the "Lemma" tab, and the select Bible Word Study. No need to use Strongs unless you've got a paper reference that only has Strong's references that you want to look up in Logos.

Hi Tim,

Thank you for your suggestions. The power look up is probably the closest that meet what I am wanting to do. I was really hoping that I could actually do it from inside of the Bible Word Study tool and get all of the options such as Translation Ring, the Septuagint Translation Ring as well as the lemma resources and finally the ability to make a note and save the word study. It really is not that much of a hassle for me to copy and paste the Hebrew or Greek lemma into the Bible Word Study, just looking for shortcuts. I really do like the power look tool for a second option as well. Thanks for the suggestion [Y]

As others will tell you, with the way Logos lets you go directly to an original language Bible Word Study from the English Bible, there should be no need for Strongs #s anymore. They were a useful stopgap for people who didn't know Greek or Hebrew in the past. But actually they're not as accurate as going directly from the English Bible in a reverse interlinear. Logos keeps showing them in the RI's as a legacy feature for those who grew up with Strongs #s, but they are fading out of usefulness, so I hope you can learn to let go of the crutch.

LOL.. That is funny and I agree. The reason that I had asked is because other programs that I've used made it very easy to click on the Strong's number and then any other resource, such as BDAG, will open directly to the word. I know that Logos will do the same but going through the library in
Logos is a bit tedious when you just want about three or four resources. Anyhow, I agree that right clicking on the Lemma for Bible Word Study is a very simple solution and the best way to do it, I had just forgotten about it. I had resorted to copy/pasting in the text field. I knew there was a way but it just would not click [:$]

I remember saying something similar a while back! I've since come to appreciate Expository Dictionaries like Mounce and Vine's as they bring a perspective that is absent from Greek and Hebrew lexicons, but they are not indexed well for homonyms, particularly Hebrew ones. Strong's numbers are useful to move between resource, dictionary and lexicons.

If you simply want to open up a couple of your top lexicons you can also do this through the right click menu (or at least start it). right click your word, select Lemma, then select "Lookup" or "Lookup in new tab." FWIW you can also drag "lookup" to the pane you want to open it in. You can then either cycle through that your lexicons (using Left and right arrow keys) or double click in the space highlighted below to open the next resource in a new tab.
