Why do shared documents  not retain author data?

Sorry Dave I should be more clear.

I was looking through my Canvas docs today and have some I know came from others but it says created by me. Makes it hard to give proper credit if using the doc.

Thank you for bringing this up, definitely sounds like a bug. I will get a case written up and submitted.
