Better than a Drag & Drop Option for Creating a Multi-book Custom Reading Plan?

Hello fellow Bible Nerds,

I'm creating a multi-book custom reading plan (going through 3-4 systematic theology books at once so that I can recognize their differences and similarities as I go - based on this page), and I'm at a bit of a loss with adding chapters to the plan without it becoming prohibitively tedious and time consuming.

I know that I can go through and highlight the entire text of each chapter and then drag it in to the custom reading plan shortcut bar.. but that option is going to be incredibly time consuming and difficult.

I vaguely remember a way to simply click (or drag) the chapter heading in to the reading plan shortcut bar.. but it's not working - and my memory is poor..

So my question is, Is there an easier - more achievable way to do this? Highlighting the entire text and dragging and dropping is just about the least efficient way I can imagine to do this - and is so tedious that I just won't do it. Is there a better way?

Woah, realizing now that I can't even generate a reading plan that will follow a normal one chapter for each session in one single theology book. I thought this had been fixed. Looks like things have reverted back to the way they were when reading plans were nearly useless.

I thought that Logos made it possible to self generate a plan that would simply have you read one chapter for each session. I'm unable to do this now.

(attempting this with Grudem's Systematic Theology. - would love a way to simply create one chapter per session.)

If I follow you correctly you intend to read multiple books within one Custom Reading Plan. If I'm correct, this is how I'd proceed. Open Reading Plan. Open each resource to the page you want to begin from (have all resources you intend to include in your Reading Plan open to the place in the resource you intend to begin at) Now, select Choose an open resource and systematically select each resource in the order you intend to read the resource to your list (if you find you have made a mistake, no worries you can clear the mistaken entry by selecting the red circle containing an "x" to clear it and start afresh).

I think you can handle it from here. If you are still stumped, holler back and I'll attempt to address your question.

As you have said, you must select the text you intend to read in order for Custom Plan to generate. Sorry.

Hello Beloved. Thank you. I saw that I could do this, however this would make each reading session only one page long instead of adding the entire chapter. Unless I'm doing something wrong - which is very possible...

No, you are correct. That is how it is meant to work, I don't know of any more efficient way. You must select the text you intend to read.

Hmm… looks like a major ordeal, and a multiple hour process to make the plan then..

I’ll have to go the old fashioned way and use a pen and ink…

I’m amazed there’s not a simple ‘add chapter‘ function.

I’m continually disappointed with the whole reading plan system.. I think I’ll have to throw in the towel on it and just stop attempting to make it work for my needs.

Even begin - end would be a welcome adaptation. I agree in its present iteration it is all but useless.

For each book:

click Start Reading Plan from the panel menu
complete/Start the plan

It should be Chapter oriented for best results.

If TOC/page oriented, generate a plan from the Docs menu. You can tailor the length/sessions to suit (usually showing as a page range):

Then create a Custom Reading Plan from the Docs menu

Add the reading plans to create a result like below:

JC:SL is the resource in the first Plan above.

Keep the "Add reading session" date at Today when adding the second Plan, as its sessions will combine with those of the first Plan.

I deleted the first session to start with Chapter 1 as that was only a Tilte - Preface reading in both original plans.

The June 11 date reflects that I manually added a final session from the HS-WG resource after deleting the session resulting from the merge.

In practice, I think the chapter lengths are too long to be reading two resources at a session, so tailor the original plans as per the second example

Strange that I can’t set up a chapter by chapter reading plan from the ‘new reading plan’ menu.
