Suggestion: Provide a right-click -> Delete option to delete notes from within a resource

Currently the only way to delete a note is to open the note file where the note is located and delete it from there. But often the time when you're thinking you want to delete the note is when you're looking at the note marker in the resource where the note is attached.

Please provide an option to right-click on a note marker and select Delete. It would be much quicker than opening the note file first and deleting from there.

IMHO, it should require a couple of steps to delete something like a note, especially since (at least at this point), we can't restore a note from a backup. Further, I think we should visually confirm the contents of our note file before deleting it, something a right-click menu would not likely allow.

Actually for me this is now a three step process, if my note file is not already open. Left click on the note marker opens the note file to the first note (top of the file - I wish it would open to the note I click on immediately). I then left-click on the note marker again and the note file opens to that note. Then, after viewing the entire contents of the note, I can delete it.

That is an understandable caution. However: 1) You can preview the note by hovering over the note marker; 2) I was only saying this should be a new option, not that it should replace the existing way of doing it, so people who want to be extremely certain they're deleting the right note before they do it will still be able to do so your way; 3) It is still a couple of steps: right click, then select Delete; that implies a certain amount of intentionality to me; so I think we can trust people to decide to do that if they want to; it's not likely that someone would unintentionally delete a note (though they might accidentally pick the wrong one to delete if they didn't hover-check first); 4) Undo (Ctrl+Z) works to undo a note deletion currently; I see no reason why that shouldn't also be implemented to undo a deletion via right-click Delete.

I get the convenience side of this, and that the option would still be there to delete the note file by opening the note document.

But if I were running a support department for Logos, I would wave my hands and yell "No! Don't do it!" I'd resist this because 1) if someone had several notes attached to the same verse, what would prevent them from accidentally delete the wrong one? 2) not everyone knows about CTRL-Z, and it's not clear whether CTRL-Z would work on a document that isn't both open and active.

If Logos gave us the ability to backup/restore our user generated documents, and if Logos backed up our documents for us regularly by default (weekly?), and gave us a restore tool, or some other way of getting back documents and portions of them, I think the support department would be only mildly annoyed at making deleting a note this easy.

In addition, how often are folks going to be deleting notes? It's not likely that most people will be doing this regularly.Is this a wise use of development time? I would rather they spent their development dollars and time on other things (like the ability to backup/restore, and share user generated documents, e.g.).

I have to agree with Richard on this. Each option adds to the testing and maintenance of the product; the right click menu is getting rather full; it increases the probability of accidental deletions. I think it goes way down in the priority list even if several like the idea.

Ah, so it's a Support issue for you. Well, the reason I suggested this in the first place was that a user asked "how do I delete a note?" http://community.logos.com/forums/t/4964.aspx

It's not obvious how to delete a note. In fact, it's quite tricky if you don't already know it (you have to hover over precisely the right spot to get the red X to appear). I'd be willing to bet that people not knowing how to delete a note and calling Support about it (or posting a question on the Forum) would be more common than people accidentally deleting the wrong note if they had more than one attached to a verse.

You're right, though, that trying to delete a note at all is going to be a relatively infrequent thing (except for us beta testers and MVPs who have random garbage ones all over the place), so I'm not going to go to my grave defending this feature suggestion. I agree that there are more important things for them to be working on.
