How can I put an icon (e.g. the Logos Bible Software icon) in the shortcut bar so that I can use it as a symbol for a dropdown menu?

Only functional icons can be put on the shortcut bar. The Logos Bible Software icon is non-functional. What is your aim?

I don't know if it is possible to import your own images for use in the Shortcut bar, but when you drag an external source to the bar it will have an icon that you can use e.g. from a browser or a file Explorer.

    Hi Dave,
how can such be used?   e.g. I have a shortcut folder named "Lexicons", another called "layouts" and in both cases the text of the folder name is displayed (using up quite some space on the shortcut bar). I would like to use an icon that would display in place of the name, thus using a lot less space and leaving more room for other items to be put on the shortcut bar.

Now, how could I use an icon via the procedure you mention?

That is exactly the point. Having an icon in the shortcut bar takes much less space than meaningful text. The available icon choices in the drop down list are quite limited.

I can't take a screen shot at the moment as my installation is corrupted from a local outage. However, the same option menu that allows you to name or rename a shortcut also offers you the opportunity to use one of a variety of FL supplied icons in addition to or in place of a text name.

Is there a misunderstanding? I only get a right click dropdown with choices for icons, name, etc. with a resource placed on shortcut bar.

I am talking about having organized 3 lexicons in a shortcut folder, that folder now visible with its name and a small arrow on the right to the name to pop open the folder and then click on a lexicon icon to open it. BUT the question here is, can this folder be given an icon in place of the long name in order to save space on the shortcut bar? (screenshot shows I have already shortened the names to 3 letters) There is no right click option with the folder name to get to those options with icons etc that you mention

There is no option to set an icon for a folder. However, you can paste emoji characters in as the folder name...

That's interesting news! Although, I don't find it useful.

You might not be aware that there are an extremely broad range of "emojis" available beyond just faces, including all sorts of symbols and shapes.

It doesn't seem that Logos interprets emoji code such as "[ : D ]" ? From where would one need to get them then? Copying one as an image doesn't help either, as Logos doesn't accept pasting images in the folder label field  ...  Ideas?

I guess what I don't understand is why not use Win + . (period) or the Apple equivalent. Do they not work in a Logos document?

I'm sure you have legitimate reasons for your question. But I feel like I'm not understanding the concept.

Win + . brings up the popup with emoji symbols, but selecting one doesn't copy it into the folder name/label field

It seems that the folder name field only accepts text.

yes, but that's the point. Unicode characters look like pictures, but are text. You'd need a font that supports it, though - then you can insert e.g. from character map or from the MS Word Insert Symbol helper. I've seen the font Segoe UI Emoji mentioned on the web for that.

(the character above, Unicode 1F344 should look like a mushroom, in the browser it's colored but as a group symbol in Logos 9.15 Beta 3 it's b/w )

(Assuming this was an answer to my question), I meant along the lines of "Is there a reason why the original poster can't just do Win + . when an emoji needs to be put into a document?

I just selected and copied from https://getemoji.com/

works. Also in Logos, e.g. as label for a command in the shortcut bar.
