Laggy Audio Bibles

Greetings.

On an i9, with a 119k processor, 32gb of ram, Windows 10, and an M.2 storage drive, it takes six full seconds for the Word of Promise, or other audio Bible to load. It takes 3 seconds just to close it, and anything that involves it slows way down. On my i5, it takes 15 seconds or so to load. Meanwhile, the same audio Bible on Olive Tree takes about 1 second to load. This leads me to believe something isn't being optimized right with Logos audio Bibles. Anyone have any information on this, or is there some tweak we can use to make it less laggy?

    Randy,

I use Audio Readers on Logos Bible everyday for my weaker eye sight and also help me not to be distracted when reading. I use LEB, ESV with Logos narrator, for other Bibles with OS System narrator) [:)]

It might be useful if you can share which Resource and which passage where you are having problem with, so that we can compare.

Hope you will have the issue resolved

Thanks. "Word of Life" is one I'm using. How are your audio Bibles performing, as far as how long it takes to open them?

For clarification: I understand the two of you to be discussing different kinds of resources. Randy is using a straight up audiobook, using the audiobook player. LimJK is using the "read aloud" feature. Two of the resources LimJK is using are audiobooks, but is also using the system narrator (computer generated). LimJK appears not to be using the audiobook player, so the results will not be a good comparison.

Can you verify that you actually downloaded the AUDIO files, and not simply the chapter of contents? It sounds like you may be streaming the audio instead of playing downloaded files.

I only use them in my mobile device and so far they work great! I’ve gone through the NT twice in two weeks! And still get like 3 or 4 days off to relax 👌

    Randy,

Like what JT said, I misunderstood your question. Sorry.

However, I found that I have a standalone Chinese CUV Audio Bible that is not linked to any of my Chinese Bible in Logos and not part of the Read aloud thingy. I played it with the Logos Audio Player (see screenshot) it is instantaneous with no issue; I noticed that the entire Audio Bible has been downloaded on my MacBookPro.

For this resource, each of the chapters is automatically downloaded as you play them. You can use the panel menu to "Download all media" ahead of time so that you don't need to wait for each to individually download.

The lag occurs with every passage. When I click the Word of Life or ESV audio bibles, it takes just under six seconds for it to open. It takes 3 full seconds for it to close. To the best of my knowledge, I have downloaded the Audio Bibles, and am not just streaming them.

Here is a link to a video that shows what I'm talking about:

Andrew, to the best of my knowledge, the files have been downloaded:

Also, the lag occurs before I even attempt to listen to a chapter of the Bible, and after I try to close the app. Here is a video that shows what I'm talking about:

Andrew, to the best of my knowledge, the files have been downloaded:

That's something entirely different. That "download" is what allows you to open the resource from your library.

Each of the audio files for each chapter are a separate download. These are automatically downloaded and temporarily stored when you first play the chapter. Playing a second time should start without the lag.

Or use the mechanism I indicated to download all the chapters ahead of time.

These kind of media resources tend to have very poor performance when opening and closing if they contain a large number of media. You can see this in some other media resources as well. This is a known issue.

Watching the video you posted, I see that this is entirely the problem you are experiencing, not anything related to downloading the media files as mentioned in prior posts.

Unfortunately, there is no workaround for this issue.

I had an odd issue with the ESV Audio Bible today. As it was playing I scrolled down by accident then back up to return to my spot. It started playing two audio streams slightly off from each other. I could only cancel one of them though and had to wait for it to finish the chapter.

Andrew, I did find the option you mentioned, and clicked to download the entire set. It made no change in the performance. After closing and reopening the app, it still takes six full seconds to load the Audio Bible, three seconds to close it, and at least a couple seconds to sync with other open windows.

Okay, thanks for addressing this, Andrew. My Olive Tree audio Bible (same exact one) takes only about a second to open. Somehow they've figured it out.

This doesn't help you, but this appears to be a Windows-only problem. I'll get it looked into.
