Inconsistent Highlighting Success

In Desktop App on my Mac, I am more frequently unable to highlight text.

I will select text, and click to highlight through pop-up modal.  Other times, I will attempt to use the Highlighter side bar.

I am unable to get highlights to work 100% of the time.  I just have to move on and maybe upon a next application load, they'll start working. Same thing happens on mobile app as well.

To me, whatever "Service" is responsible for highlighting is not working very well.

Anyone else having trouble getting selected text to highlight? Has anyone run across a scenario where they won't work?

I doubt this is your problem, but it happens for me; the interface loses its ability to take various input (latest Verbum; lastest macOS).  The solution that always works is to resize the main app panel a hair.  This causes an app-redraw, and everything then works. I'm guessing the earlier draw hit some type of error and kept going.

On iOS, the principle is similar (when the resource won't take highlighting). Just pushing the app out of view, then return, causes a redraw.  Then back in business.

The mobile's been that way for several years; the desktop recently.

Welcome Marc! [:)] Sorry you are having troubles [:s]

Without more specifics, it is hard to diagnose. I could take this several different ways, resulting in several different solutions.

There is, however, a current sync issue, which we've been told <should> be resolved by Tuesday evening.

If you would like to trouble shoot more, please provide some specifics and screenshots to allow us to "see" what is going on.

The problem for me is that nothing is going on.  I select a paragraph to highlight.  click on a highlighting option for example "yellow" from the highlighting palette and nothing happens.  No highlighting. So there is nothing for me to capture and send.   It was working fine last night.  Just started this morning.

Jac - It is best to create your own thread to troubleshoot issues on your computer. I do have a suggestion. If it doesn't work, please create a new thread and explain your issue clearly, providing details and screenshots.

The problem for me is that nothing is going on.  I select a paragraph to highlight.  click on a highlighting option for example "yellow" from the highlighting palette and nothing happens.  No highlighting.

The most likely issue is that your note document is turned off. You ARE creating highlights, you just don't see them in the visual filter.

So there is nothing for me to capture and send.

There is always something to capture. Logs allow the techies to "look under the hood." Screenshots allow us to "see what you are seeing and doing."

my apologies.  I thought it would be better to keep it with something I thoght was similar.  My bad.  Your suggestion did work.  I closed the note file and everything is fine.  Reopened it and still worked fine.  Have to admit I don't what you meant by "your note document is turned off."   Didnt know it could be turned off nor how to turn it off and on.  fortunately closing and reopening it worked.

Thanks so much for your help.  That was a serious hindrance to my work.   And next time I will be more careful to post to the proper thread.

Have to admit I don't what you meant by "your note document is turned off."

In the resource where you expect to see the highlight, open the visual filter menu (the triangle made of 3 balls), scroll through the menu and you will see what he meant.

MJ explained a bit. Highlights are a form of notes. The highlights are stored in note documents. There is a visual filter for each note document which you can turn on or off. If your note document is turned off, you can make highlights which you can't see. That <may> have been your issue, but in this case I suspect not since restarting the application made it work again.

next time I will be more careful to post to the proper thread

No worries, but when users are asking for help, it is best in most cases to create a new thread. That way you can get individualized help. It also allows those who start a thread to get the help they need and not have their thread (inadvertently) hijacked.

Thanks.  It is good to know what makes those kinds of things happen.  Appreciate the help.
