Highlighting Bible Text Question

I highlighted Mark 3:7 in the ESV

Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great crowd followed, from Galilee and Judea

All of the text in the ESV is highlighted.

The NKJV reads

But Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea. And a great multitude from Galilee followed Him, and from Judea

The words "followed Him" are not highlighted in the NKJV.

I have noticed this in various other passages. Why is this?

Look at the reverse interlinear for each of the translations. You will see that the unhightlighted words are not in the original Greek but rather added to make the English read smoothly. The highlighting is "spread" to other translations through the underlying Greek.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

    Thanks MJ. That is helpful.
