User documents synchronization feature

Greetings,

My computer had to go for repairs for 2 weeks and I am using another one. My latest backup set was 3 days old when the first computer went down and so there are some changes to user documents that are not in the backed up set. Now, I am also adding new notes with the set I am working with. When my computer comes back, would it be nice if I could sync my notes and other user documents? I am not aware of the existence of this feature in the current release of Libronix (but please correct me if I am wrong as I would love to know how). If indeed it is an absent feature at present, I would like to suggest it.

I think this feature would be great also for those who use Libronix on different computers at home and at work.

I have the same problem. It would really enhance the value of Libronix if this feature became available in the next release.

That's a great Idea Francis.

In the interim, perhaps you should create a different note file just for this, and only put new notes in it. Later you can drag them into the original file in your restored computer.

There is no ability to sync your notes with other computers within Libronix. But there are alternatives.

I have been using Live Mesh for a few months now and really enjoy it. It allows me to keep my notefiles and preferences the same on two computers.

It is good to have this link here as part of this discussion. I still think that were it possible and not too complicated to implement, a native sync capability would be better because external sync software does not sync the contents of file, it only makes sure the most recent copy of a file is on both computers. What could work is if any of these services 1) allowed users to save directly to the web drive and 2) the web drive is recognized by the windows shell and can be specified in libronix as the location for user documents. In that case, you only save in one place and tell both your computers to access user documents there.

Of course there would be a drawback to this as well: if your internet service is down or you are in a location where you have no access to the internet, you're toast! An alternative there could be to have an option in Libronix to specify an alternate backup path while retaining the local copies of the documents. This way, we're covered. It provides greater safety too: who wants to have all their notes on a thumbdrive and then accidentally crush it in your pocket?

Interestingly, there is already a sync feature in Libronix for user licenses. Since it is built in, who knows? Perhaps it is the same building block that can be used to design a sync feature for user documents? Sermons uploads are another feature which are in the same vein, so it seems to me that we are already in that direction.

Along with this, the import notes feature could also help. As it is, it is quite rudimentary. But it could be diversified 1) to include more than notes and 2) to import into an existing set (with automatic renaming for entries that exist already, eg, Genesis 1:1(1)).

I'm thinking aloud. Perhaps some of you who use sync softwares can give more details as to how you make it work. The blog does not give enough details and it would be too time consuming to try every single package that is suggested.

In the past I've used synchronex from Xellsoft.com Great software, and amazingly extensible. But it only runs when I invoke (or schedule) it. In other words it's not real time.

Currently though I'm using a more instant format: windows Live Sync. As for Syncing Logos I've got it set to sync any change to my Libronix directories across my computers. It works a treat and I'm always up to date.

Thank you for the suggestions. Concerning my current situation, it works best for me to use new sets of notes and plan to paste and copy into the older sets. Even with the use of online services, I still believe that a native synchronization feature in Libronix would be the most effective and adapted solution and an asset to an already great software.
