Question About Packer/Stott Books

Dr. Nathan Parker

I’m doing some research on J.I. Packer and John Stott’s one-covenant theology, as well as their Covenant Theology in general.

Here are the books I’ve read through so far (not all deal with the topic):

Packer:

• Concise Theology
• Growing in Christ
• Knowing God
• Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God
• A Heritage of Evangelical Theology
• Journal articles from the Master Journal Bundle, plus a handful of additional articles

Stott:

• Basic Christianity
• Cross of Christ
• The Message of Romans-Bible Speaks Today
• One People

I’m looking over the Logos store at the other Packer/Stott works out there. Since it wouldn’t be practical for me to purchase everything they’ve written on there that I don’t already have, are there any key resources I should invest in to round out my research in this area?

There's a whole chapter called "On Covenant Theology" (which mentions "the one covenant promise") in Packer's Revelations of the Cross. That essay originally appeared as the Introduction to a 1990 edition of The Economy of the Covenants by Herman Witsius, a 2010 reprint of which you can find excerpts of (including that Intro) at https://www.pcabookstore.com/samples/12872.pdf. The older (1837) edition of The Economy of the Covenants is available in Logos in the Herman Witsius Collection (not yet unbundled).
