Hello, Tes:
Can you save it to a .docx with a different name, and work with that document?
(I have never used that flavor of Word, so I'm guessing.)

Did you put a password on the document? Maybe that’s what locked it.
Or try this tip from Microsoft Support: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/enable-editing-in-your-document-22caa80b-4552-495d-8fa1-f874461a13a0

It most often happens to me when I have two copies open.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

The answer is more easily found on the Microsoft site. I have never had Office 365 refuse to edit without having an error message or a note saying it is not opened in edit mode. Is your computer responding to the keyboard in other applications?

Suggest you try Microsoft Phone Support Home or Business accounts:

Might not be your first choice, but copy the contents elsewhere and save them if you can. Then crash the program (Task Manager) or simply reboot. Then see if it works.

When this has happened to me it has been because I needed to log back into M365. I don’t want to insult your intelligence but I would check you are actually logged in on your M365 account. you could also try using the online Word interface at office.com to see if that works.

Reminds me of that old tech-support joke where the tech asked, “Is your computer turned on? That’s a common mistake…” 😂 But yeah, logging in has happened to me before, so it’s a possibility 😁

There is no problem with it.

Down on the bottom of the Word document there are read mode and print layout. typing is only possible when the print layout is active.
