I have been beta testing iOS 16, which will be released to the general public tomorrow (Monday, September 12th). I have not found any significant bugs which impact the Logos apps. However, you should be aware that some updates to iOS (especially "major" ones like iOS 16) cause new "devices" to populate on your Faithlife / Logos account. I will include a link below so that you can check out your list before updating to iOS 16.

Why is this a concern? Most likely it isn't unless you want to manage your mobile downloads via the desktop application. If you are sure you will have no desire to do so, then you can ignore this post. Here is the device link:

My advice is for you to review your device list PRIOR to updating to iOS 16. If you have never done this before, you probably have a list of generic device names such as "iPhone." It may or may not have a name prefixed to it (i.e. JT's iPhone). These "devices" will have been created automatically for one of 2-3 reasons:

  • You will have at least one "device" for each actual device you have Logos installed.
  • You may have duplicate "devices" created by updates to iOS.
  • You may have multiple devices created for each FL app installed on a single device (i.e. having Logos and Verbum installed on your phone may create 2 distinct "devices." I am unsure if this is still an issue or not)

Before you update to iOS 16, save yourself greater hassle by doing some cleaning up of the list. To start, you will need to decide what to do with your current list. The simplest option would be to delete all current "devices" and let FL rebuild the list. This may require deleting the actual app on your device. If that is undesirable, you can do some investigative work. Rename each device with a unique name. At this point, the names you use are irrelevant. "A" "B" and "C" would work just fine. You will change the names later for remaining devices. Download a book to your device which you have never downloaded before. Then, using the desktop library, figure out which "device" had the book downloaded. This may take restarts of both mobile and desktop app, allowing everything to Sync to FL.

Once you have determined which "device" is the current installation, you should delete the unwanted devices and rename the remaining one(s). Here is an example of how I name my "devices":

JT's M1 MBA (2020) [Stable Build] *Mobile App*

You may want to put more or less info into your name. If you install multiple apps, you may want to include that. For example, notice the difference between these two "Devices":

JT's M1 MBA (2020) [Stable Build] *Verbum Mobile App*
JT's M1 MBA (2020) [Stable Build] *Logos Mobile App*

My naming scheme is:

Name | Device Model | (Device Year) | [Update Channel] | App Name

When I am using the desktop app, I know more clearly which device and app I am trying to manage.
