Popular Quotes

When writing sermons in Sermon Builder, you will be able to search for helpful quotations that can be inserted into the sermon. The quotations also surface in All Search.

What is it?

You will be able to search for the quotations dataset and insert any suggestion with a drag/drop.

How to access it?

In Sermon Builder:

  1. Open the Logos 10 Desktop app.

  2. Click on the Tools icon (the nine dots square) in the toolbar.

  3. Click the Sermon Builder icon.

  4. Click the Popular Quotes icon (the quotations) in the right sidebar.

  5. Search any word that is relevant to your Sermon prep.

  6. Drag and drop the popular quotation from the right sidebar into your sermon.

In Search:

  1. Open the Logos 10 Desktop app.

  2. Click on the Search icon (the magnifying glass) in the toolbar.

  3. Type “The Word” or any other phrase to search and hit Enter/Return.

  4. Scroll through your search results until you see the Popular Quotations card.

Note

We’d love to hear your thoughts on this new feature. Please provide your feedback in the comments below.

A great addition! Thank you so much for putting this together for us.  Glad I upgraded.

This is a nice feature. It would be helpful to be able to get to it directly, without going through the Sermon Builder - preparing a sermon isn't the only reason someone might want to look for a helpful quote (e.g., teaching a class, writing a paper, preparing a blog post, etc.).

Awesome feature!  But neither of these options seem to work in the French interface.

It works on my friends' computer so I need to look into this and find out why I'm left out.  Sorry for the post...

EDIT: I apparently purchased the "Logos 10 Gold Library update" which didn't include the features.  Nothing more to say...!  My bad.

You need the L10 Silver Feature Upgrade.

Within 30 days of your purchase talk to customer service. You may be able to return the library only and purchase the gold library+features using the discount.

That's what I did.  Everyone was super nice about it.  I talked to a few people at Logos, and they admitted that it's confusing even for them...  I've been using Logos since it was Libronix 3.  Up until recently, we didn't worry too much about having to check out the language: there was only an English interface with a handful of French books.  I'm thankful for the better options in my language, in spite of the fact that some features are missing.  But I do have "Popular quotes" now... well, "Citations populaires"!  [H]

    Hello Richard,

It seems that the one in Search is more limited than the one in the sermon builder. As EastTN mentioned, having full access to this dataset outside of sermon builder would be helpful. I'll throw that out on the upgrade request list for sure. Y'all make sure to upvote it.

    Thank You,

That is standalone. Use label:answer in Books search to find all of them. Right-click  a result to see the attributes.

I have the Silver package but I DO NOT have the Quotes icon in any document, especially the Sermon Builder document, which is where I want to user it. You say it is available in the Silver package, so why doesn't it show on my Logos 10 Silver package? Is there something you're not telling me here or am I doing something wrong? Is it something I have to turn on and if so, how?

It should be in Sermon Builder if you have the Silver Feature Set with your package.

Aha! There’s the issue! It is NOT the fact that I have the Silver edition. As I suspected, it has to be the Silver FEATURE edition. I often find people saying a feature is available on the Silver edition, but they never mention that it must be the Silver FEATURE edition. I only have the Silver Baptist edition. As I mentioned in my reply, “Are you not telling me something?”

Ali, you mention in your note at the bottom of your post that this feature is “available in Silver packages (plural) and above.” However, this feature is NOT available in the Silver Baptist set. I have found by various posters that features are available in the Silver package, but they never mention that it is only available in the Silver Feature set. That is quite frustrating.

This sounds strange... the Silver Feature Set should be a part of the Baptist Silver package:

There is the opportunity to only buy the library part of the base package, but to the best of my knowledge this is only available for people who have access to the (then even: full) Feature Set through a subscription such as Faithlife Connect or Verbum Now. Did you by chance buy the package when a subscription was active and then cancel that one?

I had Logos 9 Silver Baptist package and only upgraded to the Logos 10 when the free upgrade was made available. I did not add anything, just let my Logos automatically upgrade with no changes. This is not a Silver Feature package. Somehow, I missed the opportunity to make it a “Feature“ set or package.

When I upgraded from the Logos 9 Base (Free) package, I selected the Logos Baptist package and not the Feature package. When Logos 10 became available, I just let Logos 9 automatically upgrade. Therefore, I ended up with Logos Baptist Silver which does not include the Print Library function nor does it include the Quotation function. Now I can’t afford the Full Feature upgrade..I didn’t realize these two functions were going to be available when I purchased the Logos 9 Baptist package. The Silver Feature Upgrade is a misnomer. What I was expecting is only available in the Full Feature Upgrade.

This sounds like you didn't end up with Logos 10 Baptist Silver (thus this should show as unowned), but functionality-wise with a free Logos 10 or rather 24 and the features of the L9 Silver Feature package, as well as the library of a yet-to-come L9 Baptist Silver Legacy package.

The Sermon Builder Popular Quotations feature is available in the Silver Feature Upgrade package (down in the long list of 75 features), whereas you are right concerning the Print Library feature: it is available only in the Full Feature Upgrade (or in a Faithlife Connect / Verbum Now Subscription, which may come cheaper).

Well, it appears to me that the free upgrade to Logos 10 from Logos 9 Silver Baptist just downgraded me from Logos 9 Silver Baptist to a plain Logos 10 Feature set. This is very frustrating to me! Does this mean that I must re-purchase the same Silver Baptist package in the Logos 10 upgrade? I have emailed Faithlife regarding this and asked for an explanation. I have only received confirmation of receipt of my email and that they are behind in responding to emails. So, I will continue to wait for a response. I am thankful for your response as well.

You shouldn't have lost any features. It only the name that has changed. What you are saying in effect is that all the features of L9 silver exist in L10 basic. L9 Baptist silver feature set is NOT the same product as L10 Baptist silver feature set. You should still have all the features of your L9 Baptist silver feature set.

Yes, I agree that all my features are still there. I did receive the following response from Faithlife:

Thank you for your email and your purchase.

I reviewed your account and I can confirm with you that the current package that you have is Logos 9 Baptist Silver.

The new version of Logos (Logos 10) is showing you that you currently have a Free Edition as you do not have a Logos 10 package in your account, but this still gives you access to all the resources that you previously purchased.

The Logos 10 Silver Baptist package is showing you a price on our product page because this new Logos 10 version includes additional resources and features that were added in Logos 10, those are brand new items that were added to Logos 10.

You can follow the link below to find a list of the new items, you will see the word "owned" next to each item that you currently have, the ones that have a price are the brand-new items for Logos 10:

    https://www.logos.com/product/228285/logos-10-baptist-silver

My only issue is that when my Logos 9 Silver Baptist set was upgraded through the automatic process, it suddenly became a Logos 9 Free set with all my Logos 9 Silver Baptist resources instead of upgrading automatically to Logos 10 Silver Baptist. So, to have a Logos 10 Silver Baptist package, I will have to purchase it. This does not seem fair to me at all. I scraped and scrimped and saved and asked for help to purchase that Logos 9 Silver Baptist package, expecting it would upgrade to Logos 10 Silver Baptist, and now I am faced with having to pay for the Logos 10 Silver Baptist package. I'm now just disappointed. I would be happy with just the Logos 10 Full Feature set now! It is much less than the Silver Baptist set, but I can't afford that either. [:(]

You are a perfect example of how confusing the marketing of Logos was and why they have changed the terminology so that I am now on Logos/Verbum 24 with a Verbum Cloud feature set and Logos 10 library. At least it is clear that there are levels to 3 separate things. Sorry for you understandable disappointment.

Your "Logos version 9" software was automatically upgraded to "Logos version 10", which is  currently at version 24. But it does not impact the resources/feature sets you own through Logos 9 Silver Baptist.  If you want the resources/features of Logos 10 Silver Baptist you will have to purchase them - it is very different to the free software upgrade from Logos 9.

In summary, you have the latest software for free without impacting any of your Logos 9 resources/features. Would it be fair to expect Faithlife to also give you Logos 10 resources/features for free?

Dave, I understand your point. I don't like it, but I respect it. I don't expect anything to be given to me. My point is, and it's a personal point, I understand version 24 as well. I realize that it is just me having to deal with no longer having my software edition being labeled Logos 10 Silver Baptist but Logos 10 Basic or 24. I'm sorry, but it is a sore spot with me and I certainly don't blame you or anyone else. Faithlife just changed the label of Logos and I have to deal with it. To be honest, I wanted the "Print Library" function and the "Quotations" function and was hoping that would be in my upgrade, but it wasn't. Again, I will just have to deal with it, much to my dismay.

Thank you all for the explanation. Maybe between now and 2030, I'll be able to afford the upgrade with those functions, but then there'll be something else new to add to my frustrations. I do apologize for coming across so strong in my frustrations.

    Blessings to all of you.

    Hello!

May I ask what the Q&A tool is?

    Thank you.

  • Dave Hooton

    Hello!

May I ask what the Q&A tool is?

    Thank you.

Q&A is not a tool. It is a dataset that is accessed via the Search tool.

Use label:answer in a Books search to find all the books that relate to it in your Library, because its questions are restricted by those books. Right-click one of the questions and select Answer on the LHS to get a Search on the RHS and see the format. e.g. answer:(question:"4. By what power did God create the world?" AND topic:topic:Powers AND topic:topic:Begin AND topic:topic:Beginning AND topic:topic:Create AND topic:topic:Power AND topic:topic:World AND topic:topic:Worldly)

You might be more interested in a simple answer:(question:"4. By what power did God create the world?")  but you see how limited and stilted it is because answer:(question:"How did God create the world?")  will not get a result.

    answer:(topic:topic:Create) could be more stisfactory.
