NIV 2011 version

Question for Logos:

When the new version of the NIV translation comes out in 2011, Biblica said that they intend it to replace the older NIV translation and the TNIV. With (I think) significant differences between the NIV and TNIV, I am concerned how this new version will come out.

Will you guys (Logos) update the NIV translation with the new one, or will you give us the option of keeping both the "old" NIV and the 2011 NIV, possibly labeling them as such (like the NASB and the NASB95)?

I am not in the Logos inner sanctum, but my conjecture:

if you own a particular version of a Bible or book, and have a license for it, you keep that book. The TNIV did not replace the NIV in Logos.

you will have to purchase the NIV '11 separately. whether the other two remain for sale--I would assume they would.

Not likely. They will have to assign it a new filename anyway because it is a different resource. So even if they stop making the old file available for downloads (as they did with the old NASB.lsf once NASB95.lsf came out, or eventually sometime thereafter), it won't overwrite whatever existing version you have. I'm sure they'll keep all the old resources around on their servers for archival purposes (and to be able to support users who haven't upgraded) indefinitely. So they all need to have unique filenames.

Maybe NIV '11 will become part of the base packages the same way ESV is? And we will just buy NIV '11 Study Notes some times later? Sorry, just dreaming... [:)]

To complicate things, the NIV 2011 version will still be called the NIV (with no year designation or NEW/Revised, etc. in the name).

That's not a big deal Edwin considering that the NASB 77 is just called NASB and the NASB 1995 update is also called NASB. Logos has/had both though they can only currently sell the '95 version (as a NASB) but the 77 version is still owned by some (not me [:(])

THEY (zondervan) may not call it the NIV11 but everyone else will - I almost guarantee it.

Just remember King James Version (KJV1900.logos4) and The King James Version (KJV.logos4) and that you can rename resources!
