Where does the report typo option live
Hi there I've enabled Report Typo in the settings, because I've found one. However I can't find where the option appears, I've checked the new context menu, the menu at the top of the resource and neither menu has the option. Where should I expect to find it?

The Report Typo option was removed from the app. We may add it back in if we get sufficient demand for it.

May I ask why it was removed? For the desktop version, Faithlife staff regularly recommend its use on these forums.

OK so the feature has been removed, but the setting still available?

I used it often. I come across typos quite regularly. I have a special "typo" highlighting style that I used to apply with a "T" shortcut whenever I reported a typo so I knew I'd already reported it and wouldn't report it again. It also helped me follow up to see if those typos were ever fixed.
I confess it was frustrating to report a typo and then wait years wondering if it would ever get fixed, so I can see why you might have removed it. Perhaps the feature was mostly just a "placebo for the user", to make us think we were helping, when you didn't really have the staff/budget to fix all these typos. But I still like the concept and wish you could bring it back and actually process all the reports.
Maybe reports had trickled down in recent years because people were getting frustrated that it felt like sending the report into a black hole. I did occasionally see typos get fixed several years after I'd reported them. But it was a low percentage that actually got fixed.

When building the new selection menu, we didn't want the menu to be too cluttered. We wanted to put features in the selection menu that we felt users wanted. That being said, it's great to hear that you are eager to help with typo reporting and would like to see this feature added back in. We’ll consider adding it back in for future development.
Thank you all!

Ok thanks for the explanation. However there is still a bug I think. Why is the option visible if doesn't work?

That reasoning makes sense, to a certain degree. To my mind, what it entails is the conclusion that the Report Typo option in the new selection menu should be optional (as it was before) and default to being absent (as it did before).

May I ask how you determined whether we wanted the report typo feature or not? Do you do metrics that show it wasn't being used? I didn't see any surveys done here to ask whether people like that feature.

@Ali can you confirm that the setting showing is a bug?

Thank you for the feedback, Paul. Reinstating this will require discussion and planning, so I have added it to our internal document when considering future development.

Rosie, you are a person after my own heart and I have long used the “report typo” tool using methods very similar to yours. I was well pleased upon discovering some time ago that it was available on the mobile app, which meant that I didn’t have to wait until I was on my computer to draw attention to typographical and other errors.
My personal zeal is no doubt partly kindled by the conditioned reflexes and obsessions of a retired somewhat pedantic chalkie, but, for the benefit of all users, please, please let’s hope that the option will come back. Using the wisdom (and keen eyes) of the (mobile) crowd we all want to, and can help to make Logos even better!

It was pointed out to me elsewhere that this thread I was commenting on was for the Mobile app. I didn't realize that when I posted my comments above. I am much less upset now that I realize Report Typo is still there in the desktop app. I had not even noticed it was ever in the mobile app and I use the mobile app so rarely that I don't know if I've ever come across a typo there that I wanted to report and had to wait until I was at my computer.
I still agree with others that removing a feature that was in an app is not a thing a software company should ever do without plenty of data showing that nobody is even using it. But I'm no longer one of the people affected by this particular decision.

There is so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so much wrong with this. I find it nearly incomprehensible.
It does help explain why my intended L10 purchase will rot in my cart, though.

Please put it back in. Over the years, I have reported many typos, some of which you have fixed. I have found that “scanned “books tend to have the same errors. For instance,I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen the word “modem” used where the word meant is “modern.” I have long thought that scanning technology, while vastly improved over the years, still has a long way to go. It is beyond frustrating to be reading along and encountering a typo. Especially when I have paid for the book. There have been times I have stopped reading a book because there were so many typos that I could not make sense of what I was reading. Since I do a lot of reading on my iPad, it will be easier to report typos through the mobile app rather than having to fire up the computer to do so.

I do most of my reading on an iPad, and most of my sermon prep and academic work on a laptop. I find many more typos reading on the iPad than on the laptop, so it would be of far more use to me there. That, of course, presumes that there is a real will to follow up on reported typos. I have Reported hundreds over the years on my Windows PC, but never even saw an option to do this on the iPad.

There is a will, but there are different kinds of typos. Any typo in the original gets reported to the publisher (if applicable). The change will NOT be made unless the publisher makes the change to that resource (and not a new edition).
Some typos that are FL's "fault," get changed, but the updated file isn't released right away. FL has a system for when resources get updated... some take a while longer than others.
For the record: FL has to balance a tension between users who want updates all the time and users who complain about the app updating ALL THE TIME. (I am all for regular updates).

Yes, I know. I used to use a Kindle Fire tablet and reported many, many typos through it.. My kids gifted me the iPad and I enjoy it very much, but I wish it had the report typo feature in it. From reading the other posts, it sounds like the feature has been removed from all of the mobile apps running on every OS.

Just wanted to voice my disappointment as well that this option has been removed. It wasn't doing any harm - so why get rid of it? Even if the reports are going to be processed slowly by FL staff, it still seems like a win for FL if readers are helping them improve the quality of their product...

To say it was removed isn't fully accurate. The entire menu structure was built from scratch (along with new functionality) and the feature was not added back in.

In other words, it was removed and "not added back in". [:P]
