Having a Hard Time Understanding Canvas

I am trying to understand how you use Canvas.
I like to pull various verses out of my daily devotions, then highlight and comment on them. I currently do it in Goodnotes on my iPad. Sometimes I share them to my insta story. My friend has been doing this for a long time and I just started. I would like to copy the verses into a canvas and mark it up there instead of using an outside app.
Here is the first issue:
- To have to full reference to the passage, you have to copy and paste it. But you can't dynamically work with the text once you do. If you use the "Insert Passage" option in canvas, you get the verses but not the passage reference. That's weird. It will add the non-scriptural passage headings but not the where the passage comes from.
- You can't highlight. You can add graphics that look like highlights but moving them is so frustrating in the ipad. On the desktop its not hard but then you have a graphic over the text and you can't work with the words dynamically any longer.
In the end, I am wondering what people use this for?

I’m not really a Canvas user but wondered whether https://support.logos.com/hc/en-us/articles/9407502373005-Logos-Mobile-Canvas-iPad-Only- might help at all
