Why isn't there a Scribd like subscription for Logos?

Hi all

I haven't delved too much into the forums the last couple of years but still actively using Logos, including Logos 10.

Over the last year, I have also added Scribd to my portfolio, specifically the monthly subscription. It has so many books and commentaries from the likes of Crossway, Zondervan, Baker, even Lexham that it seems to be tremendous value for someone like me (lay elder/teacher.)

Just a general question: how come Scribd can do a monthly subscription which includes so much Christian content but it is more difficult for a dedicated provider like Logos? Pardon if this has been addressed elsewhere.

I don't know that this is true. It would depend upon the contract FL has for each resource. Given that they started on disks where subscriptions were not practical, I would suspect that most of their contracts are written for a purchasing model. Scribd is a much, much newer web product that started with very different expectations and, I would believe, a very different structure for paying royalies (if any) to the copyright holders. Have you checked out Logos Connect?

I also subscribe to Scribd and find that it has so many Christian publishers that it’s a no brainer. I also especially love their audio selection. I would love if Logos had something similar. I don’t know why Logos doesn’t offer something similar - but perhaps Scribd is able to offer better pricing and subscription services because it has a larger volume of subscribers - and more types of subscribers. Not sure though.

I do have Connect (the grandfathered essentials plan.) The resource libraries on Connect I mostly own individually so its not as attractive. But you make a good point that Scribd is probably benefiting from a new business model, plus Scribd books are not even equivalent to Logos Reader editions (with scripture tagging.)

I too have Scribd but find it infuriating at times. The rules for what is available and when resources return are not clear. Logos users would not like losing access to resources. .

Yes, when I listen to too many audio books on scribd, it makes getting the next one wait a month or sometimes more.
