Bug: Highlighter tool inoperable

Systems Specs: Lenovo Legion I7 Tower (gaming machine) computer with Intel i7 gen 11, NVidia RTX3070 graphics, 32 GB ram, with more disk space than I'll ever use running windows 11 updated to the current version.

When I select the text, I am presented with the submenu for highlighting/note taking:

But when I click on an available highlighter, it fails to highlight:

Additionally, if I select the highlighter tool itself, clicking on anything there does nothing:

Adding: this is also the case with Windows 10 an another machine I have.

Are you sure? Actually your description sounds as if you put these highlighters into a notebook that is disabled in the Visual Filters (or notes and highlights are disabled altogether in your bible). Please verify your Visual Filter settings - i.e. the menu with the three dots forming a triangle.

HIghlights utilize the visual filter menu. If the note document is turned OFF in the visual filter, the highlights WILL be created but will be invisible (until you turn on the note file).

That isn't it. It I select some text, and go to the Notes panel, then select a highlight for that note, it appears just fine.
