SUGGESTION: Auto error report function

Even on the forums, users have trouble describing an error, collecting logs, and reporting issues. I suspect the situation is worse among the non-forum participants. I think it is time for FL to build an automatic error reporting scheme for selected errors and crashes - where at most, the user has to state what they were doing and give permission for the report to go to FaithLife.

We already have this: all managed crashes are reported to a centralised error-reporting system. This lets us monitor the total volume of crash reports and identify which are widespread and worth further investigation. In many cases, we proactively address new crash reports and ship an SR without anyone needing to report the issue.

The system doesn't let us drill in deeply on a specific user's problems: for that, we do still request that users (voluntarily) upload their full log files to the forums. There may be value in building a system that automates this last part, since I understand it is still fairly complicated to find the log files folder, zip them, attach them, etc.

I'm not sure what that even means (to a customer). I routinely crash (hard-quit) Verbum .... usually trying to isolate where a 'lock' issue is. Sometimes on the Mac crash box, I 'report' it (to Apple?), most times don't bother.

Then there's MJ's suggestion. I don't bother with 'Bug:' reports ... left off years back, since it's not clear bug reports are of any value to FL (the proverbial write up a case). I notice today Kiyah is bumping her own bug reports. I looked at the process for an FL logs process-trace for the Mac. I can not imagine most customers having a clue what it's talking about, much less where to find it, much less whether it's even safe.

But I do report software failures and obvious issues, under the assumption someone else may have the same issue, and reluctant to bring it up.
