L/V 10+ Tip of the Day #5 Improve lexicon readability
Another tip of the day (TOTD) series for Logos/Verbum 10. They will be short and often drawn from forum posts. Feel free to ask questions and/or suggest forum posts you'd like to see included. Adding comments about the behavior on mobile and web apps would be appreciated by your fellow forumites. A search for "L/V 10 Tip of the Day site:community.logos.com" on Google should bring the tips up.
This tip is based on the forum post announcing the feature: New Feature: Outline Formatting--visual filter for select lexicons - Faithlife Forums (logos.com)
Do you find this dense text difficult to read?
For some lexicons, you can:
- open the visual filters menu (1)
- select resource filters (2)
- select outline formatting (3) - if outline formatting is not available, reformatting is not available on this lexicon
- you can see some of the outline formatting below the visual filter drop down menu
For this example, I used Brown, Francis, Samuel Rolles Driver, and Charles Augustus Briggs. Enhanced Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew and English Lexicon. Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1977.
Other lexicons to try:
- Arndt, William, Frederick W. Danker, Walter Bauer, and F. Wilbur Gingrich. A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature. Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2000.
- Koehler, Ludwig, Walter Baumgartner, M. E. J. Richardson, and Johann Jakob Stamm. The Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament. Leiden: E.J. Brill, 1994–2000.
- Swanson, James. Dictionary of Biblical Languages with Semantic Domains: Hebrew (Old Testament). Oak Harbor: Logos Research Systems, Inc., 1997.
- Swanson, James. Dictionary of Biblical Languages with Semantic Domains: Aramaic (Old Testament). Oak Harbor: Logos Research Systems, Inc., 1997.
- Swanson, James. Dictionary of Biblical Languages with Semantic Domains: Greek (New Testament). Oak Harbor: Logos Research Systems, Inc., 1997.
Do you have additional lexicons that have the outline format feature?
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."
