Problems using Hebrew on an iPad.

Hi,

I am new to Logos after holding on to BibleWorks for years. I got the BW switchover package, which is Logos 9, I think. I use it on my iPad, which is fabulous with Greek, but I am having fits with Hebrew. When I tap on a word and get the Word Info box and then I press the three dots and press on "search for..." the new page opens up and it is blank. When I do this with Greek, I get all the other places the word appears, but nothing with Hebrew words. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. My second problem is that when a word has any kind of prefix and I press "Bible Word Study," it will only show me information about the prefix. Even when I scroll right and press Bible Word Study on the actual root, the information only shows up for the prefix. Again, I would be grateful getting this sorted out.

Thanks,
Greg

    Hello, Greg.
Welcome to the forums. When I followed your steps on my iPad, here is what I found:

Tapping on a word did not bring up the "Word Info" option. I had to double-tap.

When I tapped the kabob menu (three vertical bullets), I see the popup with "Search for..." option. Tapping that option took me to a new panel that showed all places in the MT where the word occurs.

The Hebrew resource I used was LHI (Lexham Hebrew Interlinear). What Hebrew resource were you using?

Hi Jack, Thanks for responding. I am primarily using Biblia Hebraica Westmonasteriensis. I had assumed that the problem was with all the Hebrew across the board, but I double checked with the interlinear you mentioned and I also got the results from MT. It is helpful to know that I can access it through the interlinear. I just searched through the resources available in my package and I cannot find another Hebrew OT that is morphologically tagged besides the Westminster one, so it would be great to know if I can do it with Westminster.

Wow, that's a bit of a mystery.  I'm using the mobile app on my Mac.  I'd assume that'd be the best way to fail (!), if it was going to fail.  But I tried not-downloaded (BHW), and downloaded (BHW).  Worked fine ... double-clicking a hebrew word, multiple formats, and each a panel mapping, 3-dots > search, and success with multiple formats listed.  The search is tiresome ... each time it wants to search 'Top Bibles'.

I have to re-select BHW.  Are you re-selecting or BHW not in your 'Top Bibles'?

Thanks. I fiddled with Top Bibles and was able to get the search results working. I am pretty new to this. Thanks for the help. Any idea why trying to look up a lemma in the lexicon won't pull it up if the word has a prefix?

Regarding your 'Top Bibles', that's mainly for your convenience (having your hebrew included).  You could also have selected your BHW (more trouble, but do-able).

I tried out your second question: dbl-clicked a prefixed lemma, and selected the Lookup for the lemma.  It popped open my TDOT index volume, and then gave up!  I've no idea what was being passed to TDOT  ... maybe the same issue you experienced.

    Hopefully someone else can answer.
