Placing a holem correctly with a doubling of alephs

Hi Folks,

I have been trying to place a holem above the top right hand side of the first aleph in a pair of alephs, but no matter how I approach it, the holem always drops to the righthand side of the second aleph!

Has anyone wrestled with this issue? What was your solution? I am using Ms Word as my processor.

What makes you think there are two alephs in that word? I've never seen doubled alephs before, and aleph cannot be gemminated.

Hi David,

there are not two alephs in that word there. It is in a discussion about elision and the apheresis of the initial radical that occurs at times in the MT.

Here's a few double alephs:

Job 16:5:אֲאַמִּצְכֶם ‘I will strengthen you’ (√אָמַץ); Mic. 2:12: אָסֹף אֶאֱסֹף ‘I will surely gather/assemble’ (√אָסַף); Job 33:33: וַאֲאַלֶּפְךָ֥ ‘and I will teach you’ (√אָלַף) and Job 9:16: לֹא-אַאֲמִין ‘I will not believe’ (√אָמַן). Job 6:11: אַאֲרִ֥יךְ (Hiph.) ‘I should prolong’; Isa. 48:9: אַאֲרִ֣יךְ (Hiph.) ‘I will postpone/defer’ Isa. 45:5 (unelided): אֲאַזֶּרְךָ 1.c.s ‘I will gird/equip you’ There are more. all first person common Imperfect obviously.
