Logos doesn't want to go to Psalm 19

Happy Thanksgiving to the Americans tuning in!

A picture is worth 1,000 words: https://youtube.com/shorts/qhnk4OB5nd0?feature=share

I'm running Logos 10.1.0.0041 on Mac OS Ventura. I can go to Psalm 18 or Psalm 20, but "Psalm 19" resolves to Psalm 9, although "Psalm 19:1" resolves properly.

Weird!

    Hi Greg,

This is posted in the desktop thread. Is it an issue with mobile or desktop? Is it just the LSB?

On LSB, there IS something strange about Psa 19 ... the title line.  When I type Psa 19, it substitutes 'Psa 19:title' (which refers to the title line).  But other chapters with title lines, don't do the substitution.  I don't think it's supposed to be picking up the ':title' text in the reference box.

I tried NRSV (which also has similarly labeled title lines). No reference substitutions are made.

I'm also on Mac Ventura, L10.1.0.041.  I'm guessing Greg, you have your titles turned off?

BTW, this thread needs to be moved to the new LSB sub-forum (joking).

Here's what it is doing, as I was able to duplicate this on a Mac/Verbum. Typing Ps19, the first entry in the drop-down is Psalm 19:title -- and whether enter is hit, or that entry is selected, it goes to Ps 9. But if the second entry is selected, which is just Psalm 19, it goes to Ps 19. So something appears to be wrong with the entry Psalm 19:title - maybe it shouldn't be there at all, or maybe it's just pointing to the wrong tag or something.

Note: I tried some other Bibles, and they work fine - although for them, the first entry when Ps19 is typed in, is "Psalm 19:title-14" - whatever that means, that seems weird.

Not really ... verse 1 vs. title vs title as the starting point is simply a matter of the version you are using; some translations even fold the title into the first verse.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

It is a verse range for the Psalm  i.e. from title to verse 14, where title precedes verse 1 and is part of the bible text in some bibles. Others list it as Ps 19:1-15.

Try a Bible search for "to the choirmaster" in the ESV to see what I mean.

This seems to only be a problem in LSB. I tried it and can replicate the problem in that resource on the Windows desktop version of Logos 10.1.

It seems to be a problem with the tagging or milestones. "Psalm 19:title" should not go to Psalm 9. IMHO it should also not be the default (first) thing in the dropdown if you type Ps 19 (Psalm 19 without anything after it should be listed first), but that's a different issue and not as big a deal, if it would go to the right place.

This is what I expect for translations that use the title notation:

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Just the desktop; I don't use mobile, so I don't know about that.

I see that as well; I don't see that happening with other Psalms.

Well, I don't know how to turn the titles (or inscriptions) off in Psalms. I wouldn't do that since they are part of the original text. In fact, when we read the Psalms in church, I read the title and explain the terms.

Good catch; you can't in Logos.  Though 'original text' is arguable (smiling).

Thanks for the report. This has been passed on to the content production team.

    Hi everybody,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. As Rosie mentions above, this was a bug in the milestones. This has been fixed and you'll see an update in the next week.

    Thank you!
