One User's Experience and Questions

So, this has been a long time coming - start of the schoolyear is crazy for youth pastors Wink  But I recently got some time to dig in and document my experience, so here it is:

DVD did not auto-install, had to run from Start->Run

Installed without any problems

Splashscreen: I find it interesting that it shows Logos now
and not Libronix – what is happening to Libronix?

Login screen:

  • I
don’t like adding this extra step; would it be possible to auto-detect the
internet connection and login automatically?  What do I gain from this login process?
  • When I
am not connected to the internet the page is frozen for a while, so when I
click Work Offline I don’t know if it worked or not, but eventually Logos
    4 loads

Warning message: I laughed at the emphasis on VERY

The indexing did take a VERY long time – hours, 4-5 or more.  After a recent update the indexing had to stop because my hard drive has less than 1GB left.  I had around 10GB free before the install, and Logos 4 seems to be taking up a hefty chunk of my 80GB.

System Tray: I like that my system tray is not full of icons
anymore.

Home Page:

  • I like
the look – like a magazine or web page full of images and articles I might
never have seen otherwise.  How is
this organized, and how are the resources chosen?  Is there any way to customize this by
moving resources around or picking what resources I want to appear on the
    first page?
  • I like
that this can be hidden or shown quickly simply by clicking on the Home
button so that it does not take away from a layout with resources

I like that Logos automatically detected an update, but not
that it closes Logos without a warning.
What if I needed to save my work?

How often does the indexing process take place?  It pegs my CPU and slows everything down

1st crash experience: I was reading a devotional
(365 Hymns) and wanted to see the scripture passages cited in one window, so I
highlighted them, right-clicked and chose Information Window, then Logos
crashed

Help:

  • I was
not able to widen this pane like for regular resources.  I had to float the panel in order to
    make it wider
  • In the
Resource Priority section, there should be points a, b, and c instead of
1, 2, and 3 since it says “Prioritize resources using step a., or steps
    b-c”

Open Resource Panel:

  • I like
that you can get the info for a resource simply by clicking on a button,
and that the resource info opens up in the same panel as the resource
    itself
  • I like
    the slidebar for text size
  • The
locator bar is cool; I can quickly know where I am in a resource without
taking up space for the ToC
  • I like
how the page number box also serves as a topic finder and that it lists
topics that might fit what I am searching for; in the old Logos I didn’t
know if the word I typed had an entry or not
  • How do
I toggle between and see a list of similar resources?  Do I have to hit the + button?  How do I change the order of this list
    of resources?
History: I like being able to see things I’ve looked at
in a glance

That's it for now.  Until later, thanks for the Beta and blessings!

As noted, you'll stop laughing when the indexing starts.

Every time you update resources.  So if you add books, do it all at once.

Try to reproduce your steps and use a report basically like the one that follows.  Also be sure to upload your log files with bug reports. (located in "My documents/Libronix log files/"
