The Book of Acts in Its First Century Setting (5 vols.)?

This 5-volume work on Acts is a really good discount, but, I already own Keener’s recent (mammoth) work on Acts—as well as innumerable exegetical works on Acts (ICC, WBC, NICNT, etc.).

I am wondering what/if this work would contribute anything to an existing Acts library...particularly since it is a bit dated (?). At almost $100 off this certainly has me salivating🥴!

Would greatly appreciate it if anyone who might own this work could give their impressions (the sample pages do seem pretty meticulous and exhaustive). Thank you in advance.

From a quick look, it appears that the focus of the Book of Acts series is providing a lot of background information to what was happening when Acts was written - which is consistent with its title!

While this material is addressed mainly in the Introduction section in Keener's work.

So it isn't particularly easy to compare but - for example - the section on travel and stopping places in Keener's commentary occupies about a page while the corresponding? section in the other resource goes over 16 pages so has the scope to go into much more detail

Is there a way to locate larger volumes or multiple volumes in Logos that deal with the same book of the Bible? I think this should be the case at least for some of the books of the Bible but how do we find them? Thanks!

Thanks Graham. Yes and then I can sort by Name or Author. That might help me to locate resources that have more than one resource (vol. 1, vol. 2, etc.) but it does not let me know which resources are larger than others. I did the search you suggested. I have 221 resources on Acts. Interestingly I have the 7 volume set in my library "Understanding Acts" by Jack Andrews but only volume 2 comes up in the library search you suggested. We can do a similar search on the website but still it is difficult to find larger resources.

Ahhh—just as I suspected! As you point out the source under review appears more exhaustive than Keener’s work (which is a rarity IMO). As others have pointed out on the other thread with the same name (don’t ask me how that happened😡!) the sheer numbers of scholars, essays as well as their transparency makes this source a valuable addition to any library. I think it’s just that I haven’t heard of this work before...which probably spooked me a little.

With your library I think Graham hit the nail on the head, but with Logos store — like yourself, I‘m not really sure. But, now you’ve got my curiosity piqued also. Would be quite helpful to know👍.

I don't have that series so afraid I can't look into that - but it does seem strange.

The only thing I can think of - in the Library - is to add a filter title:vol to the subject filtering. This will ensure that only resources that have vol in their title will be returned. It isn't perfect as it still returns multi-volume resources that have just one resource looking at Acts - but it does filter out some that wouldn't be relevant.

Or you could go through the exercise of adding tags to multi-volume resources and then filter on that tag.

I am fairly sure the planned sixth volume was never published - at least in that form and as part of that series.

I have never heard of the seventh you mention and I think it unlikely too as it is about another biblical book and writer anyway.

Where did you find reference to these 'planned/speculative' volmes?

As to Logos they would only appear if they had been written!
