Another tip of the day (TOTD) series for Logos/Verbum 10. They will be short and often drawn from forum posts. Feel free to ask questions and/or suggest forum posts you'd like to see included. Adding comments about the behavior on mobile and web apps would be appreciated by your fellow forumites. A search for "L/V 10 Tip of the Day site:community.logos.com" on Google should bring the tips up as should this Reading List within the application.

This tip is inspired by the forum post: Tip-ish: Automatic Searches - Logos Forums

This tip intends to remind users of the possibilities as opposed to showing exactly how to do it, i.e., modify the elements to meet your needs.

Setup:

  • Open a Bible with a reverse interlinear
    • Set prefer lemmas on in Program Settings
  • Tools > Lookup > Information to open Information Panel
    • Set to Update on Click in Panel Menu
    • Expand the sections Word Info, Definition, and Translation
  • Search icon to open the Search panel
    • Set to Book search
    • Set books to be searched based on your own preference. Mine is set to a temporary collection of type:(lexicon, dictionary, encyclopedia)
  • Guides > Guides > Bible Word Study to open a Bible Word Study Guide panel
  • Set the Bible Word Study, the Search Panel, and the Bible(s) in the same link set.

In your Bible, click on a word. This results in the usual parsing gutter line and the population of the Information Panel, the Search Panel, and the Bible Word Study Panel with the word data:

  • The Bible Word Study is based on the lemma because the Program setting say to prefer the lemma
  • The Search is based on the surface text that was clicked
  • The interlinear data of the Bible may optionally be displayed

A more likely application is based on the original languages. Note that one may simply add Greek and Hebrew Bibles, linked into the same link set.

When you have a layout that meets your needs, open the layout menu and save it with a descriptive name.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."
