Hi Tim - and welcome to the forums

Is it possible to sync desktop layouts to IOS layouts?

    No this is not possible.

One of the reasons is that desktop layouts can be much more complex than what is supported in the mobile apps

It's hard to imagine how it could be done. In theory, the desktop could offer mobile-ready layouts (sync-able). But the mobile folks wouldn't go for it; love their wild-ity.

It does illustrate FL being reluctant to integrate their platforms for church benefit.

One thing I do, is use tags to remember layouts between platforms.  Plus, I have a mobile next to my desktop, on my Mac M1.

There is also the issue of what does "layout" mean. Logos doesn't use it the way I would.

A "layout" is a pattern of tiles on a grid. It does not make sense to me that layouts, defined as such, would sync.

FL uses "layout" to mean resources and resource location. That does make sense to me that it would sync... under certain circumstances.

As I have beat the drum for nearly a decade, FL really needs to implement "projects" independant of layout and have those sync. It would solve many problems.

To be honest, for that nearly a decade, I've never quite understood what you have wanted - what issue you are trying to resolve - because you use project and layout in ways that differ from my use. Want to try again? My terminology, if it would help:

    • frame - the pattern of tiles
    • layout - the resource types and their links inserted into the frame
    • project - the layout for a specific task, updated regularly to reflect my position in that task

    Absolutely!

I pulled up my "see if they fixed mobile yet" mobile, and it has choosable layouts up to 4 panels.  I'd think for 'normal' people that just want a decent study world, those would easily be linked (pre-defining them; no changes).

But I really doubt there's that much interest in desktop > mobile.  Fixing the desktop assumptions would be good (but unlikely).  Have a 'back' button the goes 'back'.  Whoa!

I have posted a number of lengthy posts, and they should have been clear. Here is a partial summary of the issues:

    • Users desire to open a resource on device "A" and pick up again on device "B." Currently this does not work well.
    • Many users have specific purposes for device usage. Although there is a desire by many to have resources sync, not everyone wants thier Bible on their phone to change locations to where it is on their computer. For example, perhaps someone only uses the mobile app for devotions. Losing your place would be irritating. The point here is that "always on, always sync" isn't an option for FL.
    • Many users work on multiple projects at a time. Therefore resource location syncing can become challenging even for users who want it.

    My solution: Projects.

    • A user creates a "project" for devotionals, for example. On any and every device she owns the resource location always syncs between devices when the "devotional project" is loaded.
    • The user can create other projects for "sunday sermon," "smith/barnes wedding," and "Church History Research Paper." By simply opening the new project, the resources open to the current location within that project across devices.

So you are saying that projects would be another layer up - useful only for those using multiple devices for a single "project" and in that context only syncing resources?

As a drum beater for JT and the Project concept I can imagine (only imagine) it working like this for me...

Monday Morning "Sermon Project'  Start a project get the Sermon Prep Layout and resources set up for the next Sermon- define this resource setting and layout setting as 'Sunday Next Project' now I can open this project on my desktop or laptop. Knowing that say the ESV will still be open where I need it for the Sermon producing activity.

Monday Afternoon "Funeral Project" Start a project get the Sermon Prep Layout and resources set up for the Address at the next funeral - define this resource setting as 'Andy Capp's Funeral Service' now I can open this project on my desktop or laptop. Knowing that say the ESV will still be open (at this new place) when I need it for Funeral producing activity.

Monday Evening 'Wedding Project' Start a project get the Sermon Prep Layout and resources set up the Homily at the next wedding - define this resource setting as 'Andy Capp Juniour's Wedding' now I can open this project on my desktop or laptop. Knowing that say the ESV will still be open (at a third place) when I need it for wedding celebrating activity.

With these three projects in place I can face the rest of the week with equinimity.

    tootle pip

useful only for those using multiple devices for a single "project"

The most benefit would be for those users... but I am fairly certain that a majority of desktop users fall into that category (using at least one mobile device too).

In many ways it would be the same for single device users now. It would be an expansion of what FL now (wrongfully!) calls "layouts."

    only syncing resources

Other things could be synced as well... searches, guides, etc.

I came to the forums thinking that something exactly like you have described had to already exist and I wanted to figure out how to use it.  I can't beleive this does not exist.
