When I used the word "bracket" in the search argument I did not mean the typographical bracket, I meant text surrounded by repeating words. Is it really supposed to switch from text to type? Are there other words that do this?
It's not switching from text to type. It's because those double square brackets are footnote characters, and the footnote has the word "brackets" in it.

Ah, not footnotes in the normal printing sense but rather FL conversion of the Legend to footnotes ... as feature that is implemented in a manner that often causes me frustration despite the historical reason for it.
