L/V 10 Tip of the Day #77 Auto-translate feature limitations
Another tip of the day (TOTD) series for Logos/Verbum 10. They will be short and often drawn from forum posts. Feel free to ask questions and/or suggest forum posts you'd like to see included. Adding comments about the behavior on mobile and web apps would be appreciated by your fellow forumites. A search for "L/V 10 Tip of the Day site:community.logos.com" on Google should bring the tips up as should this Reading List within the application.
This tip is inspired by the forum post: Auto Translate working intermittently - Logos Forums and several others from which I drew the answers.
What translation engine is used by auto-translate?
The translation engine is selected based on the source and target language. Generally speaking we typically prefer DeepL when it is a language that DeepL supports. If DeepL doesn't support it, we use Google, which supports a much higher number of languages (including Latin).

What is the limit on the amount I can translate?
We've set a limit that will hopefully be sufficient for most normal needs. We intend to keep an eye on usage and may consider adjustments in the future.
Can I change the translation engine?
There are no means to override the selected translation engine. We automatically select one based on the source and destination languages.
How do I get it to translate the Latin phrases embedded in texts?
select the Latin text, and it will only translate the selected text:
Why is Greek not included in the auto-translate tool?
We have found that the translation providers do not do a high enough quality job in translating ancient Greek text as if it were modern Greek. We have a case open make sure that this text does not get translated.
Why is the translation in archaic English?
DeepL is choosing to translate that into archaic English. You can see this demonstrated by going directly to DeepL's website and giving it text from Lutherbible 1545 and comparing it to text from Elberfelder 1985.
