Another tip of the day (TOTD) series for Logos/Verbum 10. They will be short and often drawn from forum posts. Feel free to ask questions and/or suggest forum posts you'd like to see included. Adding comments about the behavior on mobile and web apps would be appreciated by your fellow forumites. A search for "L/V 10 Tip of the Day site:community.logos.com" on Google should bring the tips up as should this Reading List within the application.

This tip is inspired by the forum post: BUG: Documentation ahead of implementation on desktop - Logos Forums

Note: my Father defined an ex-pert as a little pert away from home. In this post I meet his definition of an expert in that Andrew B. pointed me to the Follow option yesterday so I have less than 24 hours of experience with the option.

My layout includes 3 resources: (1) a Bible opened to a New Testament reading, (2) a Bible opened to an Old Testament reading in a multi-resource panel with related study Bibles and, (3) a non-Bible e.g. the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It also includes 3 tools: (1) Information panel, (2) Power lookup, and (3) Cited by.

In the Information panel there are no link set options. Instead, one has a choice to update the information either on hover or on click. I find it works best for me to have to actually click on a word to update the information panel.

For Power Lookup and Cited By tools, link sets are an option. I have selected Follow which means "follow the focus" rather than follow a resource. None of the resources have any link set option set. Note the icon on the tab that indicates the Follow option.

For the initial example:

  • the focus is on the NRSV panel opened to Hebrews 7:26; Cited by gives sources using Hebrews 7:26 as a reference
  • the first footnote/reference in the NRSV is "f" which is the first entry in the Power lookup panel
  • I clicked on the word "blameless" which is the base of the Information panel.

I click on the tab for the next Bible, it opens with Power lookup and Cited by repositioned to the new reference in the new Bible. However, the Information panel is blank as I have not clicked on a word, only on a tab.

Clicking on a word on any of the columns in the multi-resource panel will update the Information panel although the available data for non-Bibles will be very limited.

These tools are not limited to Bible; clicking on the tab for a non-Bible:

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

This is a great tip, MJ. Thank you.

For this to work in the Information panel, one has to ensure that Factbook Tags visual filter is turned OFF in the resource, or else the Factbook will open on click instead of updating the Info panel.
