L/V 10 Tip of the Day #82 Marks option on Text Comparison

Another tip of the day (TOTD) series for Logos/Verbum 10. They will be short and often drawn from forum posts. Feel free to ask questions and/or suggest forum posts you'd like to see included. Adding comments about the behavior on mobile and web apps would be appreciated by your fellow forumites. Details matter. Consider the following which compares three texts:

  • Holmes, Michael W. The Greek New Testament: SBL Edition. Lexham Press; Society of Biblical Literature, 2011–2013.
  • Robinson, Maurice. Elzevir Textus Receptus (1624): With Morphology. Bellingham, WA: Logos Bible Software, 2002.
  • Hellenic Bible Society. New Testament Patriarchal Text (ANTONIADIS TEXT) 1904. 1912 Antoniades Revision. Hellenic Bible Society, 1904.

Do you really believe that the Textus Receptus differs entirely from a critical text while the Patriarchal text has more believable differences? Look carefully to identify the actual difference - accents and other marks. One can eliminate these (typographic) differences from the comparison. Case (upper/lower), punctuation, and marks (accents, diacritics, etc.) are controlled independently:

Now the results show texts much closer to each other.
