How about I could ask the faithlife AI assistant...

Please summarise this book in 500 words?

In 750 words contrast the arguments of this book and that book?

It might be a disaster for academic institutions wanting to conduct assessments but for a minister in a hurry it would be super handy?

Can we get ChatGPT style features which are aware of the content of our library and data sets?

Agree. Given AI (if indeed) is a learning equation, FL hasn't yet mastered a search. Not griping, but illustrating process.

And I wonder at AI-induced sermons ... AI-induced counceling. Digested trivia.

The technology is just not there. ChatGPT is impressive for natural language processing but is wrong pretty often. It can't truly summarize, it can only pull from other summaries that are already written. A good proof of this is asking it to do some math. It will confidently give you an answer and an explanation, but it is wrong more often than not, even on high school algebra problems. And it costs $100,000 a day to run!

How is it that so many think and believe that there actually is "AI - artificial intelligence" in existence? There is no such thing. Someone rather powerful in the background of technological developments has come up with what seems to many an "attractive idea" ...however, a computer does not have intelligence, it will only do what a human being has told it to do.

On a different matter, I would think that a minister has no need to be in such a situation of hurry ... When I was unable to adequately prepare a sermon in time, I admitted it and told the congregation, and then we found a different solution to utilize that space of time in a service which did edify and benefit the congregation.

Semantics. The field surpassed most people (intelligence) a decade ago. Even working with it (neural nets, since late 90s), it's hard to manage, since the computer is unbounded, vs ones own limits. People are naive for the most part.

The chat-thing is cute, but financial-costing is already a problem (machine-learned price maximizing against customers).

Lol!

Let's not get bogged down in the question of how intelligent a specific AI is. I have pushed ChatGPT quite hard on some complex theological questions and gotten quite sensible answers. I've also found gaps and mistakes. Whether it has arrived at some milestone or not, it is quite clearly useful for some things. Yes, there are some bad use cases and like every technology, we will have to consider that.

This one thing I can be fairly sure of, if faithlife doesn't get ahead of the curve on this, they risk being left behind by a competitor. Faithlife have proven themselves innovative... I'd love to see them work on this.

The problem I see with using AI to answer theological-related questions is that some users might assume the research/answer is correct and just accept it, but if it's accurate less that 100% of the time it could lead some astray.

On a related facebook post I said it seemed to me that doing proper research by digging into the Word using the Logos tools such as the Passage Guide, looking up other resources and following references would be far more spiritually beneficial than plugging in some AI shortcut.

There is just so much information out there that no human could ever read all of it.

I think it would be great if you could build a custom LLM to utilize generative AI to make detailed connections to texts that humans may have missed and then summarize them using basic prompts like, given my library, generate bullet point lists with references about subject ABC.

I would definetly pay a subscription for something like this, like a virtual spiritual life coach!
