Clicking Resource Adds Third Pane Rather Than Opening New Tab In Existing Two-Pane Layout

My Logos has this quite irksome tendency—when I click a resource in a two pane layout, that resource is opened in a third pane. When I close that third pane, the existing two panes will be readjusted such that the first pane will take up 75% of my layout, and the second pane only 25% (rather than the original 50/50).

I've realized that I can long-click the resource and drag it up to the tab location and it will open where it should that way, most of the time. But, does anyone know of a setting that will prohibit resource clicks from opening a new pane?

PS - I'm actually using a 3 pane layout and resource clicking opens a 4th pane. I described it above in 2 panes for ease of explanation. But, I should mention this because perhaps this only happens in a 3 pane layout. Any help would be appreciated!

(a tile contains multiple tabs and their panels have the same width as the tile. A Panel can have panes and sidebars).

I know that tools will open a narrow tile on the left side or the right side of the Logos window, but I'm not aware that it happens with resources. Please provide a screenshot to illustrate your issue.

I've observed this as well and find the behavior after moving the unwanted inserted tile very annoying, It changed two tiles to insert the third, but adjusts only one tile when one removes the inserted tile.

(1st image): I have a three tiles of equal size. I click on "HOMILIES ON THE GOSPEL OF JOHN 79.2". (2nd image): This opens a "Power Lookup" tab in a separate tile (or pane, not clear on terminology, sorry). (3rd Image): I close the "Power Lookup" tab and my second tile extends left to occupy the space that the "Power Lookup" tab once occupied. This now rearranges my original three tiles of equal size (1st image) to three tiles all of different sizes (3rd image). In hindsight, I should have used an example with something other than "Power Lookup" because *this happens with regular resources as well.* The problem is that this is completely random (as far as I can tell) so getting the problem to recur is difficult (it first recurred for me this morning with "Power Lookup").

The 2nd image is really my main concern. There should be a way to force Logos to open the "Power Lookup" tab as a tab within the first pane, rather than creating a whole new tile. Any ideas?

This is a popup showing the content of the footnote you clicked (if you click a reference it will open another book, so you normally hover those). What happens if you hover/click the superscript number12 at the end of the text?

If you look at the following two images, you will see that I did click the resource and it opens a new pane. I'm not sure if you're able to see that—there's a popup in the first image because I'm hovering over the link. When I click it (second image) it creates a new pane rather than a new tab within a preexisting pane (that's the problem).

The Power Lookup tool never ever opens up in that position unless you drag it to that spot. It will always open at the right side of the window in a resizable sidebar that won't disrupt the rest of your layout.

My guess is that sometimes when clicking, you are moving the mouse just enough for it to be treated as a drag rather than a click, and this puts the panel in the middle of your layout, which messes things up.

This would explain why the problem is inconsistent for you.

That's a great guess, but I haven't been able to confirm it. I've made very intentional, short, non-moving clicks and sometimes Power Lookup opens in a new pane on the right, other times it opens as a new tab in the current pane, other times it opens in a pane on the left. I'm using a Mac desktop with a Magic Trackpad. I'll try a laptop w/trackpad and regular mouse when I get home (both Mac) and see if that changes anything.

That description clarifies matters for me. The other difficulty was Dark mode and #2 being the only resizable image.

I've done some more tinkering and have figured out the following: 1) This phenomena happens in a variety of Apple platforms. 2) It is most noticed when searching a particular resource and subsequently clicking one of the hits displayed within said resource. Of course, when one clicks a hit, it opens the same resource in a new tab. 3) For some reason, this (2) action is most prone to notice even the slightest movement of the finger on a trackpad, and to register that movement by placing the new click in a new pane. 4) However, even when trying my hardest to click in a "normal" way, some aberrations occur. It seems Andrew was right!
