Update Now Message

This is NOT for Logos 10 but I have exhausted my patience for trying to find out how to post a question for Logos 9.

I have received an email and, in addition, there is a banner on the Logos 9 dashboard offering to "Update Now: Get the latest improvements for your Logos App for free - Get the details." When I click the link in either the email or on the dashboard, I am taken to a web page that, to me, is totally unclear. The web page presents information about how to "keep your Logos running at its best," but that is followed by a link entitled, "Get the latest Logos app. Download and install the Logos desktop app to dive into what’s new. Get the free app."

Clicking the link for desktop presents an opportunity to download LogosSetup.exe. Since I already have Logos 9 Silver installed, I had my doubts about downloading the .exe file, but I proceeded anyway. When I clicked to execute the .exe file, I received a message that my Logos is up to date!

Does anyone know what the story is on this? Is there an update or not. Will I receive updates every 6 weeks as indicated, or not?

I tried to open a chat and received a message that no agent was available. Very helpful.

Thank you for any clarification you can offer.

What is your computer and operating system? The latest update only works on certain OS. That may be the issue. I have an old Mac that is not eligible for the update.

    Welcome! [:)]

The software engine is (and has always) been free, but there have been different means to move from one version to the next. Faithlife is simplifiying the process. Part of the confusion has been that FL used the same terminology (i.e. "Logos 9" and "Logos 10") for the engine and the libraries/datasets. The latter you have to pay for (it keeps the lights on at Faithlife), the former you don't. Moving forward, there will no longer be a "Logos 10" version of the software engine. That is what this is all about.

As long as your computer meets the specs to be "up to date," You are eligible to have the latest version of the engine. As John mentioned, it would be good to know what specs you have to see if there is some sort of compatibility problem, or if we need to assist you in some other way.

    HI J.Kilber,

I'm sorry for the confusion. Can you provide the Url you are directed to when you are downloading LogosSetup? Can you delete any version of LogosSetup from your Downloads folder or any other location you happen to see it, and download a fresh copy directly from the install page at logos.com/install? Then try installing with that version?

    Thanks

Hello, John, and thank you for your response. I am providing more information than you asked for, but I'm answering the questions asked in the posts by JT (alabama24) and Thomas Bell, as well.

My PC is an 8-yr.-old Dell Inspiron AIO 5348 running 64-bit Windows 10 Home version 21H2. It is not eligible for upgrade to Windows 11. I was somewhat surprised when checking the stats to see that Windows 10 Feature Update 22H2 is ready to download and install. Windows updates normally install automatically, and I do not recall receiving any notification that this update was available to download. That being said, I doubt the exact version of Windows 10 affects the Logos update engine as long as it is relatively recent.

I think that information also answers JT's question. And thank you, JT, for the explanation.

For Thomas Bell, clicking the banner which appears on the dashboard of Logos 9 Silver, I am taken to https://www.logos.com/free-edition?utm_source=logos9&utm_medium=appmessage&utm_content=34168-l9freeuserreminder-banner&utm_campaign=promo-logosfree. When I click the link provided on that page entitled, "Get the latest Logos App," I am taken to https://www.logos.com/get-started. There, there is another block with a link entitled, "Desktop. The Most Comprehensive Bible Study Experience. Download." Clicking that download button offers to download LogosSetup(1).exe.

If I delete former setup files as suggested and re-install from a fresh setup file, will I risk losing resources I have purchased since I originally installed Logos 9 Silver? There are a number of important (and expensive) resources I have added.

Thank you again, each of you, for your help.

No... Not unless you don't have access to your account (username / password) in which you made these purchases.

You are free to install logos on as many computers and devices as you own for your own personal use.

As for losing resources: You don't. Once you have purchased them, they are yours. If you make a new purchase of a package which includes those resources, the price is dynamically lowered (called "dynamic pricing") so that you don't pay twice.
