Labels

I noticed that on a lot of Logos screen I am seeing, that when the tool bar is in the left side of the screen, there are no labels, just icons. But when I put my on the left, all the labels automatically appear, obviously taking us need screen real estate. So how do I get rid of the labels?

Down at the bottom there is a "<" less than character.... click it and I think it will give you what you want.
