L/V 10+ Tip of the Day #118 Find repeating words
Another tip of the day (TOTD) series for Logos/Verbum 10. They will be short and often drawn from forum posts. Feel free to ask questions and/or suggest forum posts you'd like to see included. Adding comments about the behavior on mobile and web apps would be appreciated by your fellow forumites. A search for "L/V 10+ Tip of the Day site:community.logos.com" on Google should bring the tips up as should this Reading List within the application.
This tip is inspired by the forum post: SOLVED: How to find repeated words in any book of the Bible - Logos Forums
If you want to find the most repeated words in any book or chapter or passage in the Bible follow this.
1. go to Documents -> Word List -> New. Title your word list for example as "1John word count"
2. In that "1John word count" Word List click on Add Lemmas from your book (I picked NA28)
3. Then select a book, chapter, or passage
- Select Documents icon on Tool bar
- Select New on Documents Menu
- Select Word List on Selection menu (pick list) which will create a new Word List document.
- Provide a title for the Word List
- Verify the list is in grid view
- Verify the list is in descending count sequence. Note clicking on the header will cycle through three states: no sort, ascending sort, descending sort. The caret on the right of the column heading indicates the current setting.
- Select the add function
- Select the chose book function which opens a selection menu (pick list) of the available option
- Choose the desired book
- Set the range you want to see the results from. I have followed the original poster's example of 1 John in the NA28. This will cause the results to generate.
Okay, the first results are not very exciting. But note the results have the expand/contract triangle/arrow head option at the left hand side.
- Note that you can group by a column of your choice or, as in this case, the app may decide to group for you.
- Click on the heading bar to open a selection menu of the data you want shown
- Sort on a column as shown above. Hold down control while you click on the heading to add additional columns to the sort.
The list as I would actually use it. Note this method is much faster than using the Concordance tool.
