Logos Personal Books Error

Good Day,

Not sure if anyone has any advice.

A couple of Logos versions ago, I converted all my lecture notes from my college days to Personal Books. It has never given me any problem accessing these.

However, for the first time since my switch to Logos 10, I tried to access these, and all my Personal books now won't open, saying, "You don't have a license to view this book." What would have caused these errors? I mean, they are my personal notes from my studies.

Has anyone experienced and resolved this issue?

Did you get a new PC? That's the most likely reason for this.

Yes I did. I didn't realise there would be a problem with that. Can this be resolved?

The metadata (book title, author, etc.) syncs between desktop applications. The compiled file does not unless you explicitly upload it.

If you have access to the old installation, you can copy the compiled files and use the scan method to import them. If you don't, you will have to go to the source material and recompile.

Ah, thanks for the reply. I will need to go back to the original files then as I don't have access to the old installation.

Under TOOLS/UTILITIES/Personal Books etc then click on "ADD FILE" in order to "re-instal" the file used to create the book.

Logos must know "where" [THE PATH] to that file is located on this new computer. Then hit "Build Book"

    Sorry

    It is time-consuming.

Most probably, yes. The error message is not really about the license but in your case just means that Logos can't find the file.

    • The easiest way would be if you still have access to the old desktop machine where the PBs work in the Logos installation there. You would startup Logos, go to the PB tool and upload all PBs - they will automatically download to Logos on your new machine
    • If you have access only to (a data backup of) the old machine's hard disk, you could fetch all compiled PBs from Logos' resources folder into a specific folder (say on a USB stick/thumbdrive - or attach the old hard disk via USB to the new machine), open Logos and SCAN the respective folder - this will copy the PBs into the Logos resource folder. Alternatively you might try this by hand and it probably will be working
    • If the old machine and its Logos data are completely lost, you would need to recompile the PBs, which requires access to the source *.docx files and probably includes updating the source file location (unless you have set it up in your new machine with the exact same folder path).

    Hope this helps.

EDIT: sorry, took me too long to write this up /EDIT
